Pakistan International Arlines (PIA) : News / Updates

Yeah, the buyer should've paid us to have the privilege of taking on that debt for a deeply unprofitable organization.
13 billion for 18 planes, premium 170 landing slots and the properties that are not even being named in the open domain. PIA is deeply unprofitable because political appointments and overstaffing not because it was an inherent issue. I am a proponent of privatization for national companies but not like this tbh.

Some details about the negotiations that went on between the govt and the bidders leading to the PIA privatization, including mention of how PIA was 'profitable' last year (it really wasn't). English captions available.

To support operations during the 1993 Hajj season, PIA wet-leased a Russian-built Ilyushin IL-86 (RA-86110) from Aeroflot.

The aircraft, which operated from April to July 1993, featured a unique hybrid livery combining the Aeroflot fuselage with PIA’s tail branding.

Following a failed lease agreement in early 1990, an Egypt Air Airbus A300B4 that had already been prepped in full PIA livery remained in Cairo.

Rather than an immediate repaint, the aircraft flew with a 'hybrid' livery for the entirety of 1991; the PIA cheat lines were kept on the fuselage, while the tail was changed back to the Egypt Air Horus logo.

It was finally returned to the standard Egypt Air livery in 1992.
