April 27, 2018 ·Glorious photo of PIA's third DC-10-30 registered AP-AXE. This particular aircraft flew non-stop from New York City, USA to Karachi, Pakistan, in 13 hours & 25 minutes on its delivery flight to PIA in October, 1974.
This was a world record holder for the longest delivery flight up to that time. I first flew from Karachi to Rawalpindi on AP-AXE on March 14, 1975 to attend the funeral of my maternal grandmother who had died that afternoon.
Sadly, AP-AXE was destroyed in a hangar fire at Karachi Airport in early March, 1981 while undergoing maintenance. I firmly believe that the fire was intentionally set because Airport Security Force personnel didn't allow fire engines to enter the hangar to extinguish the fire & PIA also didn't issue any accident report mentioning the actual cause of the start of the fire.

Passengers were evacuated from a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus aircraft at Jeddah airport on Thursday after ground staff suspected an engine fire shortly after the plane landed, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency evacuation.
According to sources, the aircraft had landed normally at Jeddah International Airport and reached the jetty when ground staff raised an alarm after suspecting that one of its engines had caught fire. The pilot responded by initiating the emergency evacuation procedure in accordance with SOPs.
They said some passengers left the aircraft through the jet bridge, while others were evacuated through emergency exits using the aircraft's evacuation slides.
Jeddah Airport's fire and rescue authorities also rushed to the aircraft with fire brigade vehicles following the report, while PIA officials in Jeddah informed airport administration and security authorities about the situation.
A PIA spokesperson said all passengers remained safe during the operation and there were no reports of any passenger being injured. Sources, however, said a few passengers sustained minor injuries during the emergency evacuation and were taken to the airport clinic for treatment.

rather than focus on uniforms........they should better focus on the aging old FLEET and Good Maintenance which actually needs the investment.
Still no news about any WideBodies induction for longhaul........still running on 5 B777 while 7 are inactive due to maintenance/parts/etc

PIA's privatization itself is a huge feat considering the PPP has resisted that for a long time. It will take a while to make PIA better but it will happen if the private sector, which has taken over, is allowed the time without the hitherto political interference. PIA, like the Pakistan Steel Mills, had started to revive under President Musharraf's rule but then came 'democracy' with the likes of the PPP and the Goddamn Judges like Iftikhar Chaudhry and more later.

Pakistan’s PIA seeks faster Boeing Dreamliner deliveries after Washington talks

The details emerged after PIA’s new management and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Boeing’s headquarters in Washington this week, where Naqvi and Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson agreed to finalize “the best deal as soon as possible” for the acquisition of 16 new aircraft, according to Pakistan’s interior ministry.
“The issue is related to the timing of the aircraft delivery,” a PIA stakeholder told Arab News on condition of anonymity because the discussions are private. “The PIA wants the delivery to be fast. And the timeline they [Boeing officials] have is a little distant.”
“The transaction is for 16 aircraft, and we are asking for five deliveries,” he added.
Another shareholder in PIA said the airline had pushed Boeing to bring forward deliveries from its original schedule.
“The PIA management was asking for the delivery of five aircraft now, immediately,” the stakeholder told Arab News, seeking anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
“Boeing initially wanted to give the delivery in 2028,” he said. “But now it appears that they would deliver the first five aircraft at the beginning of 2027.”
He added the US manufacturer had “agreed to make the delivery during the January-June period.”
The early induction of the aircraft would significantly expand the airline’s international operations, according to the shareholder.
“The induction of five new Boeing 787 aircraft will activate almost all of PIA’s routes,” he continued, naming Canada and other international destinations.
PIA currently flies to more than 25 international destinations, including London, Dubai, Beijing and Riyadh, according to the airline’s website.
Its fleet comprises Boeing 777 wide-body aircraft, Airbus A320 narrow-body aircraft and ATR42-500 and ATR72-500 turboprops.
The stakeholder said the Boeing 787 was the manufacturer’s most advanced aircraft and was “much better than the 777.”
Pakistan privatized PIA in December after an Arif Habib Corporation-led consortium agreed to acquire a 75 percent stake in the airline for Rs135 billion ($482 million) in a deal that valued the carrier at Rs180 billion ($643 million). The airline had accumulated more than $2.8 billion in losses before the sale.
The new management plans to more than triple PIA’s fleet to 64 aircraft from the current 19 over about eight years as part of efforts to revive the national carrier.
PIA is also in the process of appointing former Ethiopian Airlines chief Tewolde Gebremariam as its new chief executive officer, according to two officials who spoke to Arab News last week.
“PIA would not announce his name until all the security clearances are completed,” one of them said, requesting anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan was not immediately available for comment on the proposed aircraft delivery timeline.
