I honestly find it very hard to understand how anyone can still defend the IRGC strategy. Iran is suffering badly, inflation is crushing ordinary people, sanctions have destroyed economic opportunities and every new escalation brings more damage. Yet the same old leadership keeps talking as if Iran is winning one great victory after another.
Where are these victories exactly?
Iran armed and pushed Hezbollah into the conflict, and Lebanon paid the price. It backed Hamas, but Palestinians were left alone to face the destruction while Iran watched from a safe distance. Now the same playbook is being repeated in Yemen. Iran keeps the actual war away from Tehran while Lebanese, Palestinians and Yemenis pay the price with their lives and countries.
The most frustrating part is that Iran actually had an opportunity to turn military survival into a political victory. It could have negotiated from a position of leverage, reduced sanctions and given its people some economic relief. Instead, the IRGC mistook surviving an attack for winning a war, like serously.. These old generals could not accept that they had failed to deter either Israel or the US, so they continued escalating and threw away whatever leverage Iran had gained.
And when pressure increased, who did Iran actually target? Other countries in the region. It showed far more courage threatening neighbouring Muslim states than confronting Israel directly. While Gaza and Lebanon were being destroyed, all we heard were speeches, slogans and promises of revenge ''at the right time''.
Now Iranian trolls are talking about fighting Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey together. Based on what exactly? Iran has already lost senior commanders, military infrastructure and much of its regional influence. Its air force is almost non existent and its navy has taken serious losses, yet their online warriors speak as if Tehran can defeat all three countries at once.
This confidence is not based on military strength or economic reality. It is based on propaganda and the belief that every defeat can simply be renamed ''resistance''.
And as always, it is never the old men making these decisions who pay the price. They have one foot in the grave but keep sending young people to die for fantasies they themselves failed to achieve. They destroy another country through proxies, declare victory on television and then prepare to repeat the same disaster somewhere else.
