I have not seen any JF17B's in action/pics in a long time, are they 100% dedicated for training and OCU these days?

Would not be surprised, if we have 150 odd Thunders then the 20 odd Bs will be very busy on OCU duties, on top of now training teh Azeris....

150 in service would already have well trained pilots, new inductions are not so fast that they will require 20 B's to be constantly busy. I have not seen a single pic of them in a long time. Not sure if some of them have been converted for special duties and they have become camera shy for obvious reasons.

My dude, training is constant, i will give you an idea

As well as new pilots straight out of Academy/FCU
Every 3 years pilots may move on to other duties, when they come back to a JF-17 unit they need refresher courses
Some pilots will be be converting from F-7/Mirage/Chopper units
Some new flight instructors will need qualifying
Weapons and tactics development may require two seaters for safety and observation
foreign pilots will need to be trained (Nigeria has no two seaters for example)

Can you see how busy an OCU can get?

Now take into account of the 20 airframes 4-5 may be under going maintence
So you have 15 planes to do all the above tasks

I hear you, but we still have the simulators to impart initial training. They were used very successfully for training almost all of block 1 and 2 pilots. So not all training from day one is on the twin seaters (saves a lot of time, money and airframe life). The real twin seater training probably comes after completing initial 20/30 hours on the simulators.

For sure simulators help, but remember the Thunder fleet really is very large. At one point when the F-7 fleets and Mirages fleets were hovering around 200 planes each we actually needed 2 Mirage OCUs and 2 F-7 OCUs!!!!
