Pakistan Navy Westland Sea King.
The Westland Sea King has been the backbone of the Pakistan Naval Air Arm’s rotary-wing force since the mid-1970s and remains its most numerous and versatile helicopter.
On 28 September 1974, Pakistan inducted Sea King Mk 45 helicopters (later upgraded to Mk 45A). This led to the formation of No. 111 ASW Squadron (“Sharks”). The helicopters can perform anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, armed with AM-39 Exocet missiles, Mk 46 torpedoes, and depth charges.
Secondary roles include search and rescue (SAR), medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), helicopter visit, board, search and seizure (HVBSS), paradrop, and VVIP/passenger transport. In 2021–22 the squadron received 10 ex-Qatari Sea Kings (seven Mk 3A ASW/ASuW variants and three Mk 2A Commando troop-transport versions), significantly expanding the fleet.
The Sea Kings continue to serve as the primary multi-role helicopters of the Pakistan Navy, mainly based at PNS Mehran.
