I recently watched a video from the Islamabad Files channel discussing unmanned surface vessels (USVs). It’s clear Pakistan is a decade behind on this front. Had we initiated development back in 2015, these platforms could have been fully matured by now and deployed in significant numbers across the Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy.

Nope - flawed argument. There is a huge difference between the tech from 2015 and 2025. This is exactly the time to initiate this.

Even though technology has advanced rapidly since 2015, leading countries spent years developing and refining these systems before reaching today’s level. Innovations like autonomous vehicles, EV batteries, and semiconductors took nearly a decade to mature. So while it’s good to start now, those who began earlier already hold a major advantage proving that technological progress requires long term commitment, not just timing.

VLS is mostly an issue of finance not size
Typical though by low IQ people that make such decisions (im talking Navy, not you btw, i think yiur assessment is correct) . You know what will be an issue of of finances? A $250M ship sinking with 100 +sailors aboard because it didnt have enough missiles to protect itself from a saturation attack. Lets save a few million dollars and potentiate a risk of $250M and 100 sailors. If the issue is finances you buy the 8 cell MDAS and dual pack it with CAMM-ER. It would cost slightly more than 16 cells of GWS.26/35 yes but marginally so. You DONT need to load out with max missile complement. But you have the capacity to double the missile load out in war time or when financially viable without having to refit the ships with new VLS in 5-10 years.

Does PN plan to arm all the Zulfiqars/baburs/Jinnahs with the SMASH?

True, I never understood the idea of saving money by lightly arming the warship. Warship makes a strong presence in sea only if it's properly armed for self defense and has enough firepower for offense. You got precious sailors onboard, + the $$ spent on their training etc + you spent a lot on the hull + sensors and then you are trying to save money from air-defense systems lol. Makes no sense.

Baburs are 3000 ton warships and all they got is 12 SAMs. Each of these 12 missiles will not necessarily intercept an incoming missile. What if it takes 3 or 4 missiles to successfully intercept a single incoming supersonic? Its going to run out of missiles real quick. Our ships are very lightly armed.

I always consider larger warships more promising for naval warfare. As these can be loaded with enough air defense capabilities + surface warfare + stronger and powerful EW. Larger warships can create an air defense umbrella for whole fleet or even at whole of your A2/AD zone. Larger warships have other more advantages like more endurance and longer overall service life. A single heavily armed ship that can protect itself is better then 2 warships with serious lack of self defense. So maybe buying 2, just buy 1 but the one that you can rely on in intense warfare.
