Pakistan Ordinance Factories - POF

Lol,
Honestly private firm like Daud & Sons are making very good clone of AR rifles

I'm just some retired dude without a basement and I'm able to build some very good AR clones as well. Have access to a plethora of high quality of parts. Can build in several different calibers if I so desire.

The AK and AR platforms are proven designs and will remain in use for years to come. Any attempts to improve upon similar to the results of post #236 would almost make me want to consider an INSAS over that.

Not sure if anyone's seen this but the new MODP yearbook gives timelines and statuses for development of the POF rifles and ammunition.

Does the gas op rifle point to an AR variant under development? because it seems they are also developing a 556 AP round that has the same 2027 date, one can always hope i guess

Have been following Salman bhai's recent videos on his Youtube channel, and I can safely assume that POF is still manufacturing and testing various rifle designs (basically tinkering CW platforms) to find a suitable solution for the Pakistan Army rifle replacement program. That means the program is still ongoing but veeeery lazy approach and without any foreign customers. This recent video is of CW platform chambered for 5.56 round but not gas operated? There are no reviews of any of these rifles yet. Personally I find the look of this rifle as meh... and that barrel length is too long but nothing extraordinary.

Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) is set to present a wide-ranging portfolio of ammunition, infantry weapons, and soldier systems at World Defense Show 2026, reinforcing Pakistan’s growing footprint in the global defense industrial market.

The exhibition, held in Riyadh, is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading defense platforms, bringing together senior military leadership, government officials, and defense manufacturers from across the globe.

At World Defense Show 2026, POF spotlights its established strengths in conventional munitions and soldier-centric solutions designed to meet contemporary battlefield requirements.

The showcased portfolio include 60 mm, 81 mm, and 120 mm High-Explosive (HE) mortar bombs for versatile indirect fire support; 155 mm HOW HE M-107 artillery ammunition compatible with NATO-standard howitzers; 40 mm HEAT RPG-7 rounds and 106 mm recoilless rifle HEAT ammunition for anti-armor roles; Hand Grenade Arges for close-quarters operations; Personal Load Carrying Equipment (PLCE) to enhance soldier mobility and endurance; and 7.62 × 39 mm Ball and 12.7 × 108 mm Armor-Piercing Incendiary (API) ammunition supporting small arms and heavy machine gun platforms.

POF which has a real love of roller-delayed blowback systems, is still working on its gas operated rifle (slated for completion in 2027). Meanwhile, local Pashtun arms maker from Peshawar managed to make a local copy of US M4 carbine which is priced around Rs. 145,000 (USD 519). They show two versions of M4, one locally made with local parts and one original with Taiwanese parts.

Notice something about the Gas Operated Rifle it has been in timeline of 2027, its 2026 and we have IDEAS in last quarter of this year which is near to 2027, It would mean that we may see the visual of what POF is trying to go with as a Gas Operated Rifle.

There were two things worth noting. This and a DU APFSDS.

Pakistan, particularly through Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), appears to be pursuing a modular small-arms system rather than a single standalone product. This is evident from the approach toward a future replacement program in which the RDBB platform is being considered in multiple calibers, including CW-39, CW-56, and BW-20. The goal seems to be the development of a flexible weapon platform that can support different operational roles while simplifying logistics and maintenance for Pakistan’s armed forces.

  • Adoption of a platform based rifle system instead of separate weapon designs.
  • Use of a gas operated mechanism, either direct impingement or piston driven.
  • Possible design influence from proven AK or AR platforms.
  • Capability to support multiple calibers depending on operational requirements.

Such a modular approach would allow POF to introduce variants tailored to the needs of different branches of Pakistan’s forces while maintaining a common core platform for production, training, and sustainment.
