2 terrorists killed in Lakki Marwat IBO: police​

LAKKI MARWAT: Two terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, police said.

Qudratullah Khan, the spokesperson for the district police officer in Lakki Marwat, said in a statement that the operation was jointly conducted by police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel after receiving “credible information about the presence of Fitna-al-Khawarij terrorists in the mountainous area within the limits of the Lakki City police station”.

The state uses the term Fitna-al-Khawarij to refer to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its affiliates.

Khan said, “A fierce gunfight erupted when the law enforcers surrounded the terrorists’ hideout,” adding that two terrorists were killed during the exchange of fire.

He said one of the slain terrorists was identified as Mubashir, who was wanted by the CTD in various terrorism-related cases, including bomb blasts. The second individual was yet to be identified.

KP’s Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed appreciated the Lakki Marwat police and CTD personnel for conducting a “successful and result-oriented” operation. He added that the police were “fully determined to completely root out the scourge of terrorism”.

PESHAWAR: Protective nets have been installed at sensitive police stations and checkposts across Peshawar and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in response to growing threat of drone attacks by terrorists.

Officials said on Monday that such security measures helped thwart two drone attacks targeting Matani police station.

In recent months, terrorists have attempted to target police stations and checkposts in Peshawar and other districts using quadcopters and drones.

The officials said a drone attack on a house in Hassankhel killed a woman and injured several other people.

China to help Pakistan set up AI-powered law enforcement centre​

China agreed to support Pakistan in setting up a modern law enforcement centre using artificial intelligence-based technology, as the two countries moved to expand cooperation on internal security, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

According to a post on X, the agreement was reached during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and China’s Vice Minister of Public Security Gao Qi, where the two sides discussed bilateral relations, joint measures to counter terrorism and drug trafficking, and cooperation in police training and modern technology and equipment.

The ministry said China would cooperate with Pakistan in establishing the law enforcement centre, which Naqvi said would be “another bright symbol of Pakistan-China friendship”.

LAHORE: In a transformative leap toward tech-driven governance and public safety, Punjab has embarked on its most ambitious digital policing initiative yet, deploying over 10,000 artificial intelligence-enabled cameras across 98 tehsils and extending modern surveillance coverage directly into thousands of Union Councils.

The landmark project, formalized under an agreement between the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), marks the transition of smart security from major provincial hubs into grassroots towns and rural communities. Spearheaded under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the rollout is targeted for complete operational delivery by December 31, 2026.

For years, high-tech command systems were largely confined to metropolitan centres like Lahore. The new initiative eliminates that divide by taking digital protection to the doorsteps of everyday citizens across 98 tehsils and integrating local neighborhood grids across Punjab’s 7,602 Union Councils. By covering village entry points, link roads, local markets, and residential mohallas, the project ensures every sub-division shares the same robust safety standards as the capital.

Equipped with automated facial recognition, weapon detection, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), the network routes sub-divisional feeds directly into regional control hubs and the provincial Integrated Command, Control & Communication (IC3) center. This architecture enables the Emergency 15 helpline to instantly match incoming calls with live camera visualisations, dispatching rapid-response units—including the Dolphin Squad and local beat officers—with verified suspect routes and exact coordinates.

The dividends of the Safe City model are already visible in operational districts, where police figures indicate a dramatic drop in street snatchings, armed dacoities, and vehicle thefts. Beyond intercepting criminal elements, the infrastructure reinforces critical civic safeguards, linking directly with the Virtual Women Police Station, Child Safety Centres, and automated traffic management systems.

By extending high-definition, AI-powered surveillance from tehsil arteries down to local Union Councils, Punjab is cementing a unified protective shield across the province—fostering business confidence, safeguarding communities, and setting a progressive benchmark for modern, citizen-centric policing.
