Islamabad and Riyadh have agreed to boost Pakistani agricultural and food exports to Saudi Arabia up to $3 billion, the countries said in a joint statement on Sunday.

The statement, shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), said the agreement was reached after “successful” talks between Saudi Arabia’s agriculture ministry and Pakistan’s food security ministry, at the initiative of PM Shehbaz Sharif.

At the invitation of the Pakistani government, a Saudi delegation led by Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Fadley visited Islamabad from August 26 to August 28.

The delegation included senior officials from Riyadh’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the General Food Security Authority and other relevant institutions.

PM Shehbaz met the Saudi delegation and discussed potential areas of cooperation in detail, the joint statement said, referring to Friday’s meeting.

“The two countries expressed their shared commitment to increase Pakistan’s agricultural and food exports to Saudi Arabia to $3bn, with efforts to be made to achieve the target over the next two years,” it read.

“For this purpose, rice, red meat, fruits and their concentrates, green fodder and water-efficient agricultural technologies were identified as priority sectors in collaboration with the Saudi private sector.”

This project been in talks for the last 25 years ...but never executed. Over next few decades KSA need fertile agriculture land to feed the country.

A Secretariat, headed by a Secretary General, will be established in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support their work within the framework of the Makkah Agreement.

The Secretariat will be initially headed by a Secretary General from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for a period of three years.

On a serious note, why did these countries sign this agreement if Saudis have to fight Houthis alone, Pakistan has to fight India alone, Turkey has to fight Greece alone. Why the photo op then.....

Pakistan says no military response discussed under Mecca pact over Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia​

ISLAMABAD, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Pakistan said on Thursday that there were no discussions about a military reaction from Islamabad under the Mecca agreement in response to ‌the Houthis' attacks on Saudi Arabia, but added that Pakistan would act when the "time comes".

"There is no such thing under discussion right now ... When time comes (we) will act under the agreement," Pakistan foreign ministry spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said ⁠at a weekly media briefing, in response to a question asking how Islamabad planned to fulfil its obligations under the joint defence accord signed with Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

The joint defence agreement signed last month stipulates that an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack on all of them.
The question arose after Iran-backed Houthis struck Saudi cities ‌and energy ⁠infrastructure this week, continuing attacks that by Thursday had become a second theatre of war in the Middle East.

Reuters reported that Islamabad has warned Iran to rein in its Yemeni Houthi allies after they stepped up attacks ⁠on Saudi Arabia.

Pakistan, which has also been mediating the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, condemned these attacks but provided no details on how ⁠it might respond under the terms of its defence pact.

Khan also said that there were no plans to expand the Mecca ⁠alliance, as Washington struggles to contain the regional upheaval that has also disrupted global energy supplies.
