Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy. So, they at least have a legitimate government. The Pakistani regime has come into power by subverting Pakistan's Constitution and the will of the Pakistani people. They have no legitimacy in the eyes of the domestic constituency. That is why they are willing to sell Pakistan's long-term interests to foreign powers just to ensure the survival of their regime. In 2015, the decision on whether to support the Saudis against Yemen was put before the Parliament, which still had some legitimacy at that time, and was rejected because it was against Pakistan's interests. Now, the illegitimate government has committed Pakistani forces against Yemen, Iran and all other adversaries of Saudi Arabia without even the pretence of a discussion with Parliament or even the Cabinet. What other reason was there for it other than the desperation for continued Saudi support for the regime's survival ? If the Saudis withdraw the billions they have provided as an economic lifeline, the IMF bailout will collapse and the regime will fall.

Well, I can assure you, if IK was in power (legitimate ruler of Pakistan) , he would have done the same, perhaps more.

This isnt about governments or regimes, or individuals and institutions, its about the states. And this has nothing to do with Iran or Yemen, its solely aimed at Indian strategic ally Israel, anyone with functioning brain cell would see why it was signed and urgency shown. There is a clear pattern of events which led to this. Iran is already on board, Pakistan actually helped Iran during its war with Israel and Iranians have acknowledged it. Its in vital Pakistani security interest that Iran do not fall to Zionist designs because it will create a huge security issue for us on our western flanks at a time we are dealing with Hindu terrorists on our east. And I wont be surprised if Iran also join this defence pact at some stage. There is one clear present danger to all, and that is Israel under their Zionist terrorists working towards their, now very open, Greater Israel project.

And this will give Pakistan massive leverage over the matter of greater middle east and of course make Indian threat redundant. Mind you, behind all this is the Chinese blessings because when it comes to the actual hardware which will support this pact, will be majorly of Chinese origin. Expect Chinese military industrial complex working overtime in near future.

Blessed be the Yemeni......

This should be very clear within Pakistan, specially in public realm, actually must be spoken publicly, that this pact under no way will harm Yemen and its people. Pakistan has ZERO beef with Yemen.

Are you serious? Is that what Pakistan is getting in return for a "defence pact"? We provide a nuclear umbrella and cannon fodder for the Saudis, and in return we get diplomatic threats against the indians if they attack Pakistan?
Look beyond the hyperbole.Saudi and Israel relations are good. This isn't about Israel at all.

This finally gives Pakistan true strategic depth locked in with a treaty. We will have airbases and our jets and BM's stationed there. We can finally move on from the Afghanistan strategic depth experiment.

And yes diplomatic support against India is all Pakistan needs because we have India covered militarily. Now we won't need to rely on the goodwill of the west who have always used a carrot and the stick approach with Pakistan.

You don't know how Arabs think, especially Saudis.

The take by the following former Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia are usually very insightful.

He seems exhausted by the line of questioning, but through it all lays out India’s importance to the Saudis, economics.

The Pakistani establishment needs to understand that building up the economy and domestic stability (clear cut political rules have to be respected to rebuild confidence in doing business and going through official channels to sort out disagreements or business deals) are vital to taking away this disparity (per capita at least) between India and Pakistan. If Pakistan looks like a rising economic market, it also makes it easier for the Saudis and other GCC to be willing to risk their economic ties to back Pakistan against India, should that ever arise.

Now you understand why Qatar did not retaliate — because the end user contract prevents Qatar from using those weapons against Israel. So whatever the Arabs have, it is useless against Israel.

so Free Khan?

Technically, they were purchasing junk weapons, as U.S. end-user agreements prevent their use against Israel. In effect, they sustained the Western defence industry by buying equipment that cannot be deployed against Israel. Instead, such weapons are redirected inward—used in conflicts against fellow Muslims, fuelling division and destruction.
