President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt congratulations to the Saudi leadership and its people on the occasion of Saudi National Day, praising the deep and enduring bond between the two nations, on Tuesday.

President Zardari highlighted the spiritual connection deepened by the presence of Islam's two holiest sites in the Kingdom. He also noted that the partnership in defence and security is a vital step towards regional peace.

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed that the historical ties of mutual trust and brotherhood will always remain strong.

This sentiment was formally cemented into a landmark ‘Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA)’ signed on September 17, 2025, at the Al Yamamah Palace in Riyadh.

The agreement aims to “strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression,” stating that an attack on either country will be considered an attack on both. This formalises a defence relationship that has been decades in the making.

The pact is the culmination of a partnership that began with a 1951 Treaty of Friendship. Since the 1970s, Pakistani soldiers have been stationed in Saudi Arabia for the sacred duty of protecting the Holy Sites.

Collaboration has included training Saudi military personnel in Pakistani institutions, joint exercises, and Pakistani support in key moments, such as the Al-Wadiah War in 1969.

The recent agreement is seen as a strategic response to a changing regional security landscape. Analysts suggest that recent instability and the perceived threats from an assertive Israel have created an urgency for such a formal, NATO-style arrangement.

GCC countries have lot of influence in Muslim nations through Saudi’s holy sites.
Pak siding with USA at this juncture might make China think twice now. They have been through lot and remained loyal in your friendship. Same goes with Saudi too.
These tangents are all intricately connected.
The outliers are Israel (aggressor Saudi’s don’t like and don’t want) India (Pakistan thinks them as aggressors)

India will not make a move now and will wait till all or few of the scenarios play out. There is no rush for us now. GCC is not going to throw out all the Indians right away. Even if they start now it will take minimum 5 years to 10 years to replace all Indians with Pakistanis. Now we should get some popcorn an watch the show.

China and Pakistan parting ways has been a Indian pipe dream now for 70 years.

In fact China could well benefit from increased hardware sales to Pak funded by Saudi.

US, China, Pak all stand to gain.

Yes, so in 5 to 10 years you can expect a Indian free GCC.

Not happening. Indian work force is integrated in more ways then we can imagine.

Every given day 5 to 10 times more Indians are getting work visas then Pakistanis atleast in UAE. That is second biggest country / economy in GCC.

The agreement is only about defense of KSA. Its not related with economy or workforce. Or atleast we have not seen any clause for that.

Secondly, We should have pushed for broader agreement with GCC inclusive of defense + economy. From our perspective, our real benefit lies in economy.

If the majority of smart people want to leave then the assumption that somehow there is a “smart people” factory in Pakistan that will churn out the same is wrong.

If that was the case every General coming out of Kakul and Quetta would be the next Guderian.

Most of these skilled and educated individuals are actively seeking to leave Pakistan due to limited opportunities, political instability, and economic challenges. Studies, including reports from everyone from UN, WB, Think tanks (happy to provide you an entire list to dispute with your own credentials) , have shown that large scale emigration of highly educated professionals leads to a significant talent gap for Pakistan's case especially that of healthcare workers, engineers, and IT professionals is particularly high, depleting sectors critical to national development.

Furthermore, what tends to replace those who leave is often not of the same caliber or experience, due to constraints in education quality, brain drain feedback loops, and lack of capacity building infrastructure. This results in a diminishing skill pool, which compounds the challenge of economic growth and innovation.

India’s experience differs mainly because many of its expatriates return with enhanced skills and investments, and India has a supportive environment to nurture talent domestically. Pakistan’s weaker institutional framework and limited incentives for returning professionals mean it struggles to retain or replenish its best human capital.

In sum, while Pakistan produces smart individuals, the ongoing exodus of top talent, combined with insufficient replacement by equally skilled professionals, undermines the country’s potential for sustainable development. No amount of sugar coating or establishment cheerleading will change that.

So, you're suggesting that all of us living abroad are the smart Pakistanis and the Pakistanis currently living in Pakistan are all the worthless dumb and stupid people that have been left behind?

Do we know how many smart people are left in Pakistan or have they all migrated abroad now and there's no hope for Pakistan?
