Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Rallies / Protests

Islamabad march

Editorial
November 27, 2024

WITH emotions running high, chaos closes in. As these words were being written, rumours and speculation were all there were to go by as the citizenry wondered what exactly was unfolding in Islamabad.

With the electronic media kept from doing its job, it remained difficult for most to separate fact from fiction. We do know that two extraordinary meetings between PTI leaders and the party’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, arranged on late Monday night, came to nought.

And, defying all predictions and the government’s war-like preparations to keep them out of the federal capital, crowds of charged PTI supporters finally managed to enter Islamabad in the early hours of Tuesday. Before the protesters broke through the city’s container defences, skirmishes between marchers and security personnel, as well as other incidents, resulted in several deaths. At least three Rangers personnel, several police officers, and two protesters lost their lives. Countless others were injured.

Meanwhile, on social media, partisan ‘analysts’ and opinion makers competed for attention, with one side portraying the events as nothing short of a revolution while the other celebrated reports that the army had been called in, apparently with orders to shoot on sight. As their war of words accelerated to alarming levels, the authorities failed to keep temperatures down.

While statements from the police chiefs of Punjab and Islamabad had remained needlessly confrontational, the interior minister made matters worse when he declared that “five minutes of firing” by security forces would force the protesters to disperse. Shortly after, there were reports that live rounds had indeed been used at one of the blockades, injuring several protesters. A little later, a fast-moving vehicle ran over several security personnel, causing multiple deaths and injuries. These events may not necessarily have been connected, but they did make such statements look unwise in retrospect.

It was clear by Tuesday afternoon that matters were slipping out of the government’s hands. While the interior minister blamed a “hidden force” for the PTI’s surprising advances, one wondered what came of the more than 20,000 security personnel and the equipment that had been requisitioned to keep the party out of Islamabad. Rumours swirled of backdoor negotiations in Islamabad, and there was danger that things could spiral out of control when the protesters forced themselves into D-Chowk, though they were subsequently pushed back.

It was unclear how much control the PTI leadership had over the crowd that had marched on Islamabad and how far they would exercise that control if their goals remained unmet. Still, one hopes that this stand-off will be resolved through politics and dialogue. Compromises will be necessary to avoid further confrontation and violence; it is up to the PTI leadership and the government to find a way out.

Following the grand operation against PTI protesters, clean-up activities have begun across various roads in the federal capital.

"The aim is to utilise all available resources to reopen roads for citizens as soon as possible," said Memon.

He added, "We are working diligently to ensure that all roads are cleared and open by morning for the public."

After being closed for four days, all motorways have now been reopened, as confirmed by motorway authorities. The Islamabad-Lahore motorway (M-2) is once again open, providing relief to commuters.

In addition, the Lahore-Sialkot motorway has been restored, improving regional connectivity.

Motorways M-3, M-4, and M-5 have also resumed operations, allowing for smoother travel across multiple areas of the country.

Simultaneously, cleaning efforts have also been launched to restore the city’s main thoroughfares to their normal state.

Bushra Bibi, Gandapur retreat as PTI calls off protest 'temporarily'

Nov 27, 10:15

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk ended late Tuesday following a large-scale government crackdown. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar confirmed that the area had been cleared, with hundreds of protesters arrested and key PTI leaders retreating.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, reportedly fled to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa amid the chaos. Earlier, Bushra Bibi addressed PTI supporters, urging them to remain steadfast in demanding Khan’s release.

Protesters clashed fiercely with law enforcement, removing barriers and briefly occupying areas near Parliament. The military, summoned with shoot-at-sight orders, eventually pushed the crowd back. By nightfall, power was cut in the area before security forces launched a final operation.

Government ministers declared the PTI’s “final call” a failure, with Tarar stating: “Protesters fled, leaving behind shoes, clothes, and vehicles.” Over 450 arrests were reported, and officials promised normalcy would return by Wednesday. PTI leadership has yet to issue an official response.

A united Hindu-Sikh empire is the only path to peace and prosperity for the entire subcontinent. Otherwise, only India will continue to prosper, while the rest of Indian Subcontinent remains impoverished. I support democracy, but this region is not ready for it yet. It should first come under a unified Hindu/Sikh empire and gradually transition to democracy over the next 50 years.

I think you’re misunderstanding the situation. The British-Indian colonial army that Pakistan inherited has gone rogue and has been destroying the country. One day it will be brought under control and Pakistan will be able to make economic progress. As a reminder, for most of the last 77 years Pakistan has done better than India in terms of per capita income. India had only pulled ahead in the last 10-15 years.

Once Pakistan is back on track it will provide support to the Muslims of South Asia and everywhere else. It will not allow India to oppress Muslims in India and will help the Kashmiris to become independent.

Pakistan’s internal issues must never be construed by Hindus as a sign of their victory.

Mods seriously; why these cunts like Markhor are even allowed on this thread? They come here to laugh and gloat at the martyrs.

Let them laugh their time will come as well, when either they or their family members
are victims. They won't be laughing then.

Anyways I hope their are no more peaceful protests, time has come to pick up guns.

If the Gh@shti Army, Rangers, Police, Politicians and Judges don't follow the Law
then why should the rest of civilians follow the Law? Is Pakistan Law is only
for the poor and weak.

Western media is very muted on the violence to the protesters and killings.

Just like in Ukraine zelensky got the go ahead by Biden, same thing happened with these rats in GHQ. American establishment wants to screw up things beyond repair before Trump comes into power.

Things will never be the same after last night. This gash is deep enough to last a lifetime. I used to defend the institutions over my lungs. No more. Not in this life. Same goes for a huge chunk of Pakistani populace.

People need to see Asim and his gang in GHQ as implanted moles to cause internal havoc. This is the mission they been assigned for riches and retirement packages.

I still refuse to blame the armed forces as institution, they themselves need freedom from these rats sitting in GHQ pulling the strings.
