Pakistan's Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircrafts

AWACS = USAF terminology for AEW&C.

But my favourite is "Awacas" from Pakistani media in 2004.
You also got to love every plane Pakistan buys from China is now reported as “JF-…”

We got to have some kind of mechanism from PDF that just puts out a press release when something new develops, so our media can report it with some credibility.

Still, even if you deduct ZDK, 10 AEW/AWACS is a hell of a lot for a country of Pak's size. It would help maintain a constant 24 hour patrol of 3 in the air at anytime during war/crisis, but in peacetime we will not be using most of these birds I imagine

Can the Radar sensor be converted for land use? There has to be some value in the sensor ?

It is likely that performance issues and/or lack of economical upgrade for radar was the core reason for early retirement.

I think the issue in their retirement shows there may be very little value in the sensor. I think probably primarily due to integration and clutter issues.

Is it possible the PAF will set the planes back to China to have the Radar swapped out an export approved version of the AESA on the KJ-500?

There maybe little value in the sensor on a plane, looking down due to "clutter issues". But - how does it perform against a clean sky(clouds included). If that performance is ok - then there is value ? How would the sensor function as a ground based radar. And is this not the sort of stuff that NASTP can look at ?
