‘Pakistan’s poverty rate higher than India, B’desh’

the corrupt ruling elites everywhere are hellbent on keeping the status quo system which only rewards them and not the masses.
Its a system of the elite, by the elite and for the elites.

They dont want to change it, hence we see poverty in all the developing/poor countries and where its lower/poor and middle classes all want to flee abroad to the West or to the Middle East........

But now bcaz of these wars, those migration doors and ways are closing fast for everyone.

All 3 countries have net negative migration and nominal per capita GDP below 3K.

FWIW, GDP per capita for Bangladesh and India is 80% more than Pakistan (2.8K vs. 1.6K). That is a BIG difference... and it should not only be looked on absolute terms but %

1.9k now for Pakistan - of course other factors are relevant too (% of the economy remaining informal, billionaire wealth, among others).

Every problem is transient. Pakistan will overcome this too iA.
Yes Insh'Allah we will overcome this challenge. We are a nuclear power and can be respected on the world stage.

Pakistan will remain what can only be called a failed state until such time Pakistanis stop breeding like rabbits and blame their shortcomings on God. Time to take matters in your hands, work hard from dawn to dusk, say NO to handouts, write your own destiny, do not accept defeat, think outside the box, be honest in your dealings, and learn to live and let live. Pakistan has the potential, resources and manpower to thrive...but will it?

I agree with you. Pakistan has a population of 270 million people. We can make it right.

Look at Japan or China they are good role models.

We are good in the military sector, but we need to make it right in the economy and education sectors.

Sure - if that gives your peace... the "other" factors of informal economy, billionaire wealth etc are nothing special or unique to Pakistan so whatever adjustments are needs to be made for other economies too for apples to apples...

Here is the more relevant and painful point for Pakistani members - rate of GDP per capita growth in last two decades and how does it compare with Bangladesh or India.

Spending some of my precious tokens but chart below...

Country20002025MultipleCAGR 2000-25CAGR 2000-24

Bangladesh$621$1,9853.2x4.8%4.9%
Pakistan$1,050$1,6691.6x1.9%1.9%

Spending some of my precious tokens but chart below... If I add inflation figures and adjust for real GDP growth / capita, it will be negative for Pakistan (as inflation has been higher than 1.9% YoY)

No it's not for me - thats what the number actually is, its $1901 nominal after fy26. Zeroing in on 2 decades for a specific period doesn't give a 1 for 1 comparison for countries in different stages of the demographic transition (median age of 27-29 vs 22) - younger states with more non-working dependent will be lower.

nothing wrong with having such population as long as our economy is fixed, we can actually sustain such population
No need for any de-population agendas , let our people have fun and increase the ummah chummah no worries.

Not a day passes by now where one reads in the news of infanticide, suicides and homicides due to extreme poverty. Robberies have become the norm and petty thuggery fast tracked to murderers and organised criminal empires.

The absolute stark contrast between haves and have nots threaten the social order like never before.

I think 2 days ago a family of 4-5 did suicide, it was in karachi I guess. The male (head if family) was only 28, married with kid and had one sister. All did suicide. Because they were struggling and no one came to support. Close family members even blocked their contact numbers.

Situation is so bad that anyone who had 4-5 workers in our markets have now 1 at max. Even we had to let go 2 of our boys. Purchasing power is down the drain. Inflation is crazy. Even in cities like Lahore you have at least 3 hrs of load shedding. Malnutrition and stunting is rife. Half of Pakistan is illiterate.

The regression never stops.

Our family clothing business is facing losses every year for past 8 years. Every year we hope that things will change but people lost the ability to buy. Usually every common person used to buy 2-3 suits (shalwar qameez ) every year, now they hardly buy 1 for whole year.

It was not specific but the last 25 years or so - that is a "generation" . Here is another 20 years added. Now - there are 1 million and 1 excuses that you can make but data doesn't lie... The truth is Pakistan started at a very high GDP / capita but has since squandered it royally...

Country19802000MultipleCAGR 1980-2000CAGR 2000-25Change
India$394$7571.9x3.3%4.9%+1.6pp
Bangladesh$405$6211.5x2.2%4.8%+2.6pp
Pakistan$730$1,0501.4x1.8%1.9%flat

It is from a few days ago. Here are some links for you since you are apparently such a reader .

Expect a notification soon instructing the media not to talk about poverty, like the recent notification not to report on terrorists incidents.

Pakistani dictatorships have been failures from 1958 till today and the deepening poverty is another damning indictment.

These are old figures. Just the abduction of KP CM alone brought these figures from 38.3% to 31%. Just wait for latest figures.

No you missed the point - zeroing on a country going through stage 3 of the demographic transition vs one deep in stage 2 is what I pointed out.

Secondly, Pakistan had a nominal per capita GDP of 287 USD in the year 1980.

Sure - here is the source, if you do a simple google search you will get the 287 USD number but needs to be adjusted for currency deflation. Same is the process for India and Bangladesh.

Also, what do you mean by country going through "stage 3" of demographic transition and how is it any different than India or Bangladesh?

Component1980 valueWhere it comes from
Real GDP (NY.GDP.MKTP.KD)$60.05bn, constant 2015 US$Pakistan’s official national accounts, plus OECD national accounts files and World Bank staff estimates. The World Bank links older base years back to 1980 and converts at the 2015 exchange rate.
Population (SP.POP.TOTL)82.29M (midyear)UN World Population Prospects, cross-checked against national statistical office figures
= GDP per capita$729.78GDP ÷ population
