An operative of Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) and an Islamabad Police officer stand alert as security is heightened to maximum level in the capital ahead of the US–Iran talks and the arrival of VVIPs.

That's altogether bad.... Wasting these assets on mere checkpoints on road....

Well yes and no. SSG never or very rarely do this, as you point out, it is a waste of an SSG Trooper.

What I am taking from these if that even if we have SSG doing such tasks, means we must be throwing a lot of SF into this security op, to the point we do not want to trust regular army of police for even menial tasks

Ah nothing screams top tier protection like a soldier without a rig, plate carrier, helmet and only a single Mag, too much Leniency is awarded to the SSG in terms of equipment, quite a few soldiers have lost their lives because they didn't want to carry plates in their carriers, at least police guy next to him is carrying a vest

Yeah, but you need to trade that off for comfort, also it is Islamabad, so relatively safe. In border areas you seem them better protected.

The stakes are extremely high for what is about to happen in Isb. If SSG is requisitioned, it was deemed appropriate by the security planners. After all this is a better use of the SSG than wasting their time readying for the joint services parade.

This is certainly not the first or the last time. I recall from Zia days, when he'd visit, there would be SSG detachment with him and on the perimeter of the venue. When Pakistan hosted the OIC summit in 1974, SSG was employed for security. Post the attack on SL cricket team, SSG was employed for security of a few other visiting teams. Subsequently other Army QRF teams started assisting LEAs in such roles.

Video of Maj Syed Ali Raza shaheed (132 LC, Sitara-e-Basalat bar), 1 Cdo, dead-lifting weights etc.

Sad to see so many young officers of high caliber making the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

I don't think it's about trusting the regular army. There are cordons established for such duties and various units/outfits are given those responsibilities. I am sure SSG, Army QRFs, Rangers, Police are all assigned duties and not excluded from the security plan.

For sure, its just this time round we are seeing more SSG involved in more routine duties, working alongside Police and regular army (as the photo shows).

There's of course a valid reason, and has been the norm to requisition SSG for domestic security purposes. They provide(d) close security for PSL and international teams as well.

But there is no world in which the capabilities of an SSG operator are much more likely suited to be standing at a naka asking cars for their IDs. If so, then that's an indictment on all your other LEA's.

I guess this might be a one off and the guy happened to be there and somebody got a picture, but if it's a deliberate move, then 🤷‍♂️

Wow, the fact that SSG are even manning checkpoints means we are throwing everything at security for these talks....
Considering if something bad does happen, SSG can respond right then and there rather than mobilizing from their stations.......Nothing wrong with it.

Captured during the Para Wing Award Ceremony, where Brig T.M., then Comd SSG, was the Chief Guest.
I stand holding my son beside him just days before his martyrdom.
A moment of pride, honor, and a memory that lives forever.
