Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) passes away at 86

They honestly don't make em like him any more. Utmost respect for any of the Hollywood class that is genuinely self made. He evidently was not the type born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he fully earned his keep through sheer abundance of talent and instinctive mastery of any stage. I read his Mum was a textile worker, Dad a sergeant major.

And as for the character, Picard, well....he wanted something truly better for all of mankind.

Beautifully put sir. Pride of Mirfield

RIP, Captain Picard.
Growing up in Pakistan, I was very young when the William Shatner as the Captain. Loved it but didn't understand the English language much and dad translated. Loved the shows. Spock was our favorite and we had one cousin--with small eyes--even named Spock and I still call him Spock! Then the shows stopped. Then came the 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'. We didn't like a bald-headed new Captain but it grew on us. Then Data become my favorite.

I am very sad to hear of this, he is of an age of my childhood and formative years as I feasted and grew up on the great Star trek TNG and I always had a fond view of him and his work.

He is of a minority in his field, a true legend of an actor with the gravitas of a Shakespearean actor who was as comfortable on the stage as he was on the big screen. He had a true commanding presence as an actor and as others have pointed out, he earnt all he got. No nepo baby born with a silver spoon, just a gritty hardworking actor.

He had the constitution of a bull and I had thought he had many more years left in him so I am very surprised and saddened at this news, but none of us truly know when our time will come.

RIP Sir. RIP..

Star Trek TNG is one of my favorite shows that still holds up well 40 years later. One of its strengths was its cast and Capt Picard (Patrick Stewart), Q and Data (Brent Spiner) were my favorite characters.

I read that Patrick Stewart was initially an unorthodox choice for Captain Picard as he was a stage trained Shakespearean actor, but it all worked out in the end.

I also like the original Star Trek , Voyager and some DS9. I don't like the recent monstrosities.

RIP Mr Patrick Stewart.
