At the bazaar of Makin, South Waziristan, 1992 (c).

"At the bazaar of Makin, we saw some awesome characters, and the tea stalls in particular gave it the look of the American wild west. We saw a tea stall where camels were parked outside while tough-looking armed men sipped tea around a table.

Everywhere there was a wonderful mixture of the old and the new. Dastun pick-ups were parked in the bazaar next to camels. Younger men carried AK47s, while the older tribesmen stuck to their faithful 303s.

Clothes were much the same as those worn hundreds of years ago - though, as a result of American aid during the Afghan War, there were a few Pashtuns wearing American GI commando jackets. Most of the tribesmen here unlike those in the more accessible parts of the Tribal Areas, proudly wear their turbans".

Extract from Imran Khans Book:- "Warrior Race, A Journey through the land of the Tribal Pathans", Published 1993.
