POF - Pakistan Ordinance Factories

I had said this before when the thread was made on pakistans new rifle. We will not be buying anything from abroad. Pakistan has been upgrading POF consistently by partnering with different companies from different countries, like czech, italy, turkey and uk(if i am not mistaken) so that we are able to make our own rifles for all services. And that will happen once the rifle meets all our requirements, IA

Latest that I read is that some upgradation is happening to two assembly lines at the POF small arms factory. Don't know what the outcome will be.

Agree with the poster above that Pakistan will NOT be purchasing any platform off the shelf and it will be an indigenous option replacing the G-3/Type-56 inventories.

Need to accept the fact that only so much can be done with the G3 rifle to *modernize* it. Is it still an effective, hard-hitting rifle? Absolutely. As a battle rifle, does it maintain the range and accuracy requirements with standard issue ammunition? Yup? Can it be accurized to serve in a DMR role? Most certainly.

But is it a weapon that the Pak Army is going to want to carry for another 40 years? Who knows? Then again, look at how long the SMLE served and actually continues to serve in some capacity around the world.

As for the India-Russia partnership regarding the AK-203, is that perhaps a testimonial over its own failing to develop a suitable rifle on its own? Meaning....the INSAS?

I wonder how much of the indigenisation effort is a result of factory upgradations and international collaboration, and how much of it is almost solely Mr. Salman Ali's skill and enterprising spirit.

99% vs. 1% in reality. Behind POF marketing (Salman Ali et-al) is an entire army of people involved in evolution, field trials, feedback, development etc.

The problem for us is that we cannot fast track the generational jump because in Pakistan everything done is "evolutionary" and not revolutionary. Second, we have yet to truly open up our defense industry to private sector and competition. I am optimistic about the establishment of DIPRA. It needs to be actualized.

Perhaps I was a bit unfair to him. Point is that it's the entire small arms factory behind these efforts. Not just one or two people leading it.

As slow as the army moves, its evaluation is very thorough and exacting. You need an entire infrastructure to support the program for Army to accept a new platform/weapon.
