Prices for Gaming Laptops are crazy right now due to the Ram and Memory Shortages

Made a purchase from Lenovo yesterday and the prices are very high right now.

Final cost after student discount and coupons was 2,58,000 inr for me which is equivalent to 2700 usd.

It's the RTX 5070 12gb + OLED model.

For the gamers in Pakistan, how are the prices there right now.

Almost decided to get a PS5 instead but the console is EOL at this point and I cannot warrant a purchase just for GTA6 at 30-60fps on 1440p

I remember buying Dell XPS 17, 9700 (now 5 years old)… for gaming.

I only played one game on it for 2 weeks before getting bored.

Now I have two laptops of Dell XPS 17 and MacBook Pro M4. They both do the job for me depending on my needs.

It’s too much money to spend on a gaming laptop if you are not going to play a lot of games in my opinion

Well yes if you don't aim to game no point spending so much and getting bad battery life + portability in return.

I aim to use the laptop primarily for university, multimedia and gaming. Alas the macbook doesn't have an OLED and you cannot game on it. The form factor is chef's kiss though.

Console is a better choice for casual gaming.

I would never spend that much on a laptop. I made a Gaming PC in Oct 2025 before the madness truly started, spent about £1500 on Ryzen 3D 8 core + 32gb Ram + 9700xtx card.

Laptops are never worth it unless portability is critical requirement, esp with the components you have selected, there is a high risk of failure due to excessive heat generation from them.

Laptops are never worth it unless portability is critical requirement, esp with the components you have selected, there is a high risk of failure due to excessive heat generation from them.

I do need it for uni and yeah portability is something I'm looking for right now. I did look at the PS5 + OLED monitor setup but it doesn't really feel reasonable in the long term with this generation about to end. Also buying a subscription just for multiplayer is ehh.

Well you assembled a PC at a good time.

I don't think I've read any QC issues for this particular unit so far, won't modern components shut down or throttle before they heat to a point of physical damage.

The Ryzen 9 H series processes seems to heat more from what I've read, Ultra 9 series runs comparatively cooler.

yeah the RAM shortage is real, even I see most laptops only coming with like 8GB of RAM, rather than 16 or 32GB......if u want more RAM u pay for it dearly.

Dang, I guess I have been living under a rock for years! My main laptop, which is very similar to the one in the pic below, had it OS horribly corrupted for a week and I have been using the backup one as in the pic below--yes, an ugly, bulky Dell--and I thought to get rid of it and get some lighter one and I thought to get rid of this Dell but now I should hold onto it!
BTW, I don't even play Solitaire, let alone serious gaming. My heavy weight laptops act as servers and I sometimes do resource intensive GIS processing so need dedicated video cards.
PS. I do need to update the OS and I have a Rufus disk but that would probably wipe off the OS.

Make sure to future proof. I know it costs more but like cars I never buy base model either because it doesn't hold its value as well long term. With pcs its better to dish out more on a good gpu that can last 3 or 4 generations

Here is my previous server which got toasted OS from a storm about 10 days ago. Even the backup was corrupted; pretty odd considering I had a surge protector. This one is Lenovo Thinkpad and now a fresh OS install using Rufus. And I have to painfully setup a lot of software on it to make it my on the couch laptop. But I think the storm did me a favor in a way: The Thinkpad is lighter in weight, has backlit keyboard.
IIRC, I had paid less than $300 each for the Thinkpad as well as for the Dell Precision 7520 several years ago on Ebay; their processors are too old for Windows 11 requirements but brother Rufus is amazing to go around those requirements--and incredibly, Microsoft itself provides Rufus from their site.
PS. My devices are named after cartoon characters and so 'Homer' and 'Bart'!

I bought rtx 2060, ryzen 7 4800h legion 5 for 230K in 2021. Today same level Laptops for e.g. rtx 5060 legion 5 cost 450K to 500K in Pakistan. I am unable to upgrade.
