VoA does not post unverified news - and I understand the need to lift for you as the Imran Aleh Salam types do as well - but this is real.

NOW

It is at this point just a LETTER - not a bill - not a law - just a letter to urge lame duck biden to say something but it is irrelevant because what will matter is if this has any traction after January 6th.

One things settle down based on who wins - especially if its Trump who will need just a meeting to make a statement(which he wont give a shit about) which will “kaanpen taang rihi hain” situation at Army house and the mafia houses next to the golf course being built in DHA Phase 5.

Unfortunately, what’s might also happen is that the PA may be put under further sanctions in terms of equipment so the only people able to sell to Pakistan then will be China,Turkey - and perhaps North Korea.

In their misguided but somewhat accurate attempt to right democracy in Pakistan - expats are ignoring what else will be bundled together with any potential sanctions

Considering Biden did not bother to even call Cartoon-e-Azam Imran Khan while he was the PM and didn't care when he was thrown in the jail, I am not sure why the Pakistani Americans think the US has any interest in domestic Pakistani politics.

Trump milked Cartoon-e-Azam Imran Khan well, taking full advantage of him realising the latter only seeks celebrity style attention and photographs with world leaders.

With Khan at his side, Trump managed to get Modi on his side by green lighting annexation of Kashmir and also pulling US troops out of Afghanistan unharmed after threatening Cartoon-e-Azam Imran Khan that he would "wipe out Afghanistan" or "kill 10 million Afghans" (Khan's Pakhtun race) if he didn't help extricate US out of Afghanistan.

Since post August 2021, I don't think the US has any interest in Pakistan unless they believe Cartoon-e-Azam Imran Khan can be allowed to abandon CPEC.

IK’s the definition of the idiom “shooting oneself in the foot” because of his ego regarding his image and the “chalice” of mellisandre.

The biggest mistake his sponsors in the establishment made was not realizing that his “charm” was best kept to a presidency.
Let the middle class enfranchisement with PTI nurture and grow under SMQ or another candidate - but then the problem with that is IK is too much of an image to let that happen.

Regardless - they picked the wrong enterprise to try and do their usual puppeteering to “fix” the system - which they were never qualified to run or advise on in the first place.

Too late for anything now -

A major blow is coming for Pakistan’s powerful military establishment, as 62 members of the U.S. Congress, led by Representatives Greg Casar, Jim McGovern, and Summer Lee, have called for a significant overhaul in the Biden administration’s alliance with Pakistan’s military. This action could directly impact the ability of key military officials and their families to buy property and reside in the United
States.
The proposed shakeup includes measures that could severely limit Pakistani military elites from acquiring real estate in the U.S. and accessing visas for long-term residency. With a history of buying lavish properties abroad, the Pakistani establishment has long shielded its wealth and families in safe havens outside Pakistan. However, these new developments threaten to block those privileges.
The congress members argue that continued support of Pakistan’s military, known for its oppressive tactics and corruption, is no longer in line with U.S. interests, and they seek to hold them accountable for their actions domestically and internationally. If successful, this push could leave Pakistani elites scrambling to secure assets elsewhere, with their children’s future access to education and residency in the U.S. hanging in the balance.
Sources say that many within Pakistan’s military are already feeling the heat, as the fear of losing their U.S. assets looms large. With this kind of political pressure mounting, Pakistan’s establishment may find that their cozy relationship with the U.S. is on thin ice, and their financial and personal safety nets could vanish sooner than they think.
Stay tuned for further updates.

Love this news. May the dirty corrupt Pakistani military Generals burn in hell and in the gutters of the failed nation they occupy.

Yes, President Imran Khan would've worked. Him resigning after losing vote of no confidence and letting someone else from PTI would've strengthened PTI into a real political party but his damn ego (or his advisers) wouldn't let that happen.

Why on Earth he went after the military from September 2019 onwards, an institution that helped a sportsman to become a Prime Minister with no political experience, baffles me to date.

Luckily, he was removed from power just in time before he could turn Pakistan into Ukraine like his Ukrainian comedian counterpart.

Under his premiership, a weak and a pacifist Pakistan was becoming the new norm and it was quite scary.

It will never happen, but if any western country had any sincerity towards helping developing countries, they'd implement measures like this.

However it goes against their national interest.
It doesn't work like that. Admittance to Pakistani military personnel can only be refused if a similarly situated non-military person is treated equally. i.e. some evidence that they have committed crime or other such unlawful acts. Being part of de facto military controlled government does not violate any U.S. law unless they have done something really bad (like massacre etc.,)

Should There Be a Restriction on High-Ranking Officials Leaving the Country After Retirement?

In a country like Pakistan, high-ranking officials possess invaluable knowledge of national secrets, policy decisions, and crucial information. Upon retirement, these individuals not only serve as valuable assets but also hold sensitive information. This raises the question: should these officials be restricted from leaving the country for a certain period post-retirement to safeguard national security and policies from potential risks?

Which Positions Should This Restriction Apply To?

In my opinion, the following officials should be subject to such restrictions:

1. President of Pakistan - As the head of state, the president has access to crucial national and international matters, possessing sensitive information vital to national interests.
2. Army, Navy, and Air Force Chiefs - Heads of the armed forces are entrusted with defense policies and strategies. Given their significant role in national security, safeguarding their knowledge from any potential risks is imperative.
3. Chiefs of ISI, MI, IB - Intelligence agency heads hold information on national and international intelligence plans. Should this information fall into the wrong hands, it could lead to serious repercussions.
4. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court - As the head of the Supreme Court, the chief justice has detailed knowledge of critical legal and constitutional matters. Protecting such information related to national interests is essential.
5. Chief Election Commissioner - The Election Commission head plays a pivotal role in strengthening democracy, with insights into electoral processes and democratic principles that need protection from foreign influences.
6. Prime Minister and Chief Ministers - The prime minister and provincial chief ministers are integral to national policy and governmental decision-making. Their knowledge and experience could pose a threat to national security if exposed to undesirable channels.

Would Such a Restriction Be Beneficial?

This restriction isn’t meant to confine these individuals post-service but to ensure national security. A two-year period would allow them to distance themselves from sensitive information, reducing any potential risk of information leakage.

Conclusion

The purpose of imposing a temporary restriction on retired high-ranking officials from leaving the country is solely to protect national interests and security. This restriction honors their importance and service to the nation while ensuring the safeguarding of their knowledge.
