If current government is so fragile that it cannot handle being criticised by one party on social media and international media, then maybe the king should step down.

I don't support muzzling Imran and his followers, especially when they speak on Indian Media ;)
However, you may know that Imran has just called some of his party leaders 'Mir Jaffar' and 'Mir Sadiq' which, of course means 'Traitors'. Their crime: For merely attending a National Defense University conference where there was a large civilian presence and at least some of them spoke for Imran.
This is mindset of the 'leader' you guys support! Undemocratic, intolerant, and authoritarian.

And prevented an economic default. And repulsed a major Indian attack. And repaired certain aspects of foreign policy.

Not bad at all.

They could have done more, of course, but at least some things that are indeed useful.

And IK had 6% growth, oversaw the shooting down of Indian jets and bombing their HQs and was getting us cheap oil from Russia. I can also nitpick achievements like that.

Sir aap ponchay Jinnah house ke bahir with petrol bomb, I'll be there shortly. Surely there will be no life changing consequences.

Kyun bhai? Mein konsa inqilaab inqilaab key narey laga raha hun? Jin ko inqilaab chahiye, woh zaroor karein.

So both have mixed records. Typical for governments. What is the big deal here? Perhaps only that a duffer like SS somehow has a similar mixed record as the genius IK?

And destroyed the democracy, the judiciary, the media, the human rights, the civil liberties… 🙄

12 months before VONC is reign was falling apart and the public were turning against him.

He did not deliver any meaningful change. He was destroying Punjab through Buzdar and KP stood still and went backwards in some areas like literacy rates. Corruption indexes kept ticking up. His policies did not take affect at ground level. He couldn't execute nor could he organise.

On the security front he negotiated a fragile ceasefire with the terorrists which was was already breaking down 2 years into his tenure and allowed space for them to spread. He attempted to legitimize BLA. The issues you are seeing today is because of the miscalculations in his tenture.

Pakistan was not growing organically. The global markets had pumped in liquidity in response to covid lockdowns. He did not prepare Pakistan for the downturn that was to come.

He was a flop. As ineffective as PPP if not worse. Only reason he has support is because of ethnic populism or cultism. Even Altaf Hussain had support, doesn't mean anything in Pakistan.

I don't think you have a full grasp on how global liquidity impacts small 3rd world economies. AI has this to say:

Pakistan’s growth was externally powered, not internally earned.

It was borrowed growth, because:
  • It depended on global stimulus (not Pakistani reforms)
  • It vanished when global tightening began
  • It was not backed by productivity gains
  • It didn’t build lasting reserves or capacity

How we will judge this government is how the economy behaves in the next downturn. This will decide if the work they are doing has been meaningful.

Does the illiterate voter in Pakistan understand this or are they just looking for the symbol they like the most? Giving democracy to illiterates is like giving a loaded gun to a child.
