Imran Khan’s health in ‘grave danger’ after eye blockage diagnosis, party says

PTI reports Pakistan’s jailed former PM being denied proper medical treatment and visits from family and lawyers

Pakistan’s incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan is facing severe eye damage and is being denied proper access to medical treatment while in solitary confinement, officials from his political party say.

Khan, 73, considered Pakistan’s most high-profile political prisoner, has been in jail since August 2023. He is serving sentences for corruption and leaking state secrets, which he has claimed are part of a state-sponsored campaign to keep him out of power.

Khan has largely been kept in solitary confinement, according to his lawyers and party leaders, who said they have been denied access to him for the past three months.

According to a statement by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Khan’s party, their fears for his health worsened after reports the former prime minister had been diagnosed with a dangerous blockage in the retinal vein in his right eye, known as a central retinal vein occlusion.

If left untreated, the condition can cause permanent damage to eyesight.

“According to medical experts who reportedly checked him in jail, this is an extremely sensitive and serious medical condition which, if not treated promptly and properly, carries a high risk of permanent damage to his eyesight,” the PTI said.

Khan reportedly already has blurred vision because of the condition. The party said the prison authorities had not allowed his personal doctor to examine him for months, which they said was “reckless” and putting Khan’s health in “grave danger”.

For the past three months, lawyers and senior party figures as well as Khan’s sisters, have been protesting over their lack of access to Khan in Adiala prison. Their demonstrations have been met with teargas and water cannon.

A court order stated Khan should be allowed visits by family and lawyers twice a week. However, he last met his lawyers 100 days ago and a legal petition by his party leaders to get access to him in prison was rejected this week.

Gohar Ali Khan, a barrister and PTI chair, said the party had significant concerns about Khan’s health and his conditions in prison.

“Despite the court orders, we could not meet Khan,” he said. “He is incommunicado and in solitary confinement, which is against his fundamental rights. After the reports on Khan’s health, we and his physicians should be given immediate access.”

After concerns over his condition late last year, Khan was allowed to briefly meet his sisters in early December, who reported that his health was fine. “Presently, we don’t know anything about the condition of his eye as we are not allowed to meet him,” said his sister Uzma Khanum, speaking on Wednesday as she took part in a sit-in outside the jail to demand access to her brother.

Khan served as prime minister between 2018 and 2022 before he was toppled in a vote of no confidence after he fell out with the powerful military establishment.

He was arrested in August 2023 on more than 100 charges he claimed were made up by the military and government in order to disqualify him from politics.

Khan was first sentenced to three years for “selling state gifts”, and in January 2025 was sentenced to a further 14 years in prison on corruption charges. His wife, Bushra Bib, was sentenced to seven years in the same case and remains in jail.

Such a sad state of affairs... Dont they see what happened to Zia, Musharraf, Yahya, and Ayub! Dont they see what happened to autocrats like Nawaz, Zardari, BB, and most of politicians, who have no respect in eyes of Pakistanis.
One man who wanted to help Pakistan rise up to the level of strong nations with social uplift and human growth elements has been sent to rot in jail.

Nawaz Sharif had his "life threatening" platelets disease miraculously cured in London.

A magical place, London.

Maybe Khan should be allowed treatment there?

No, it is fact.
Canadian PM Marc Carney got standing ovation at David just saying,
"it is end of the rule-based international order.
It is Rupture in the world order."
As the guy is so damn honest and selfless, what he says at the wrong time and wrong place also proved 💯

Marc Carney, is career politician, and he said same thing diplomatically.

Now our Chief Mistri will get lots of 🌽 from Trump as trade bargain.

No, it is fact.

Though I am for diplomatic response.
We agree to disagree.

Although the exact findings or procedure is not disclosed, at least there is some form of approrpiate treatment:

"He added that at Pims, Imran’s “eyes were further examined, and after his written approval, a 20-minute medical procedure was performed”. The ex-premier was then taken back to the Adiala jail with “important instructions”.

“During the medical procedure, his vitals and everything were stable. He’s absolutely healthy,” Tarar stated."

‘Absolutely false’: Info minister dismisses reports of govt deciding to give ‘firm, final’ offer to PTI

News Desk
January 30, 2026

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has dismissed reports about the government deciding to make a “firm and final” offer to the PTI of reconstituting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and holding general elections a year earlier in exchange for the opposition party rejoining parliamentary committees, it emerged on Friday.

The alleged development was reported by journalist Muhammad Malick in his programme on ARY News, ‘Khabar Muhammad Malick Kay Saath’ on Thursday.

In the programme, Malick alleged “one or two important meetings” were held a few days ago, following which it had been decided at the “high-level” that a “final and firm offer” would be made to the PTI.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders staged a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Friday, demanding access to party founder and former premier Imran Khan and highlighting concerns over his medical treatment.

The sit-in followed an overnight protest outside Adiala Jail, after the party filed a formal petition in the Islamabad High Court seeking access to the detained leader.

Security at the Supreme Court was tightened ahead of the PTI leaders’ arrival, with extra personnel and prisoner vans deployed around the complex.

PTI Senator Falak Naz Chitrali was among the first to arrive at the Supreme Court, followed by PTI leader Latif Khosa and Senator Mirza Afridi. PTI MPs arrived as additional prisoner vans were positioned outside amid heightened security.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja went to the court to meet Chief Justice Yahya Afridi. When the chief justice did not meet them, they held a 10-minute meeting with the Supreme Court registrar. Following this, Raja and Khosa met Attorney General Mansoor Usman.

Any blame on Balochistan govt for allowing such scale of attack with such coordination or is that script only reserved for KPK govt?
