REGARD FOR 60 YEARS ASSOCATIONا

In 1960s on Radio Pakistan Karachi commercial service every fifteen minute in the afternoon relay, a commercial came from Habib Bank in which father, mother, brother, sister all on turn said that the Bank was their’s. At the end a small kid did not forget to tell “میرا بھی تو ہے “. When in 1966 I got my first job, I joined it with Rs. 5/-. It was in effect the best Bank as for as the common man was concerned. Despite nationalisation early 1970s, soul of Seith Habibs remained in serving the ordinary. On so called foreign investor taking control, the bank became a money minuting institution damn caring the service to the ordinary. Don’t forget against own legal experts why prestigious New York Branch was closed.

2. Its today’s working can be judged from one example. When I used first leave from the new cheque book, its en-cashment was refused on the ground that the cheque book in question was not issued by the Bank. When in writing I approached its CEO requesting the Bank to file a case against this account holder for manufacturing its bogus cheque book, immediately it reimbursed the amount it had charged as new cheque book cost.

3. I am living in Bahrain with family. Recently I wished my daughter who is working in a Ministry in Bahrain also had an account in Pakistan. I approach Bank’s CEO, separately to Karachi Zone, City Zone and Area Chief Operation and others to guide me as to how this account could be opened easily. None out of these 7-8 addressed has cared even to acknowledge. This is the practical regard for a sixty year long association. Seith Habibs inducted all seniors have gone. Had anyone still be there, the Bank would had appreciated the desire of keeping my association with the bank beyond my extended family new generation.

4. In 1980s when still Seith Habibs soul still was in the Bank, International Division B of the Bank used to send me “in pads” Blank Account Opening Forms for delivery to me through HBL Bahrain helping me to arrange opening of accounts in Pakistan of Pakistanis in Bahrain. Today still both in Pakistan and Bahrain ex-HBL Bahrain seniors are who would vouch this.

5. Latest is investpak portal opened for investment. Earlier with much pride we established a Special Investment Facilitation Council. What result? So often talk shows tell us. Two years back H.E Mian Shahbaz Sharif announced soon special schemes in National Savings for Overseas Pakistanis. It was my first month abroad when DG National Savings addressed here in Bahrain and told community special products for Overseas Pakistanis were being prepared. 43 years have passed.
