The American company *Lockheed Martin* announced today, Monday *October 6, 2026* in the city of Marrakesh, the first official appearance of the first Moroccan fighter, the *F-16 Block 72*, by successfully completing the first experimental flight.
October 7, 2026: The Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF) signed a contract today, Wednesday, during the Marrakech Air Show 2026, with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to acquire South Korean FA-50 fighter jets.
The deal is part of the RAF's efforts to modernize its fleet and enhance its capabilities in advanced training and combat missions. The FA-50 combines the characteristics of an advanced trainer aircraft with the combat capabilities of a light multirole fighter.
The Korean fighters are expected to join the Moroccan military's air fleet alongside the F-16s, bolstering the RAF's capabilities and providing a modern platform for training and operational missions.
The FA-50 is based on the T-50 Golden Eagle advanced trainer platform and has a maximum speed of approximately Mach 1.5 and a maximum takeoff weight of about 12.3 tons. It can also carry a range of guided missiles and munitions, including AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles and precision air-to-ground munitions. The signing of the contract during the Marrakech International Air Show represents a new step in expanding defense cooperation between Morocco and South Korea, with the entry of Korean defense industries into the Moroccan market through the FA-50 fighter jet program.
