Russian regions where domestic cars are most popular identified
In celebration of the Day of Russia, the experts of AUTOSTAT agency reviewed the passenger car parc and identified the regions with the highest share of registered domestic vehicles (as of 1 January 2024). According to the agency's data, the highest proportion of Russian-brand vehicles is found in the North Caucasus. In this regard, Dagestan is the most patriotic region, with a 69% share. In other words, almost 70% of all vehicles registered in this republic are domestic brands, while the remaining 31% are foreign vehicles. The figure is 64% in Ingushetia, 63% in Chechnya, 62% in Kabardino-Balkaria and 60% in North Ossetia.
In the North Caucasus Federal District as a whole, the share of Russian vehicles is 59%. Moreover, this is the only district in the country where domestic brands account for a greater proportion of the market than foreign vehicles. Conversely, in the other seven federal districts, foreign brand cars have the advantage. The Far East is the most notable example of this trend, with foreign brands accounting for 88% of the total car parc and Russian brands representing only 12%. This represents a skew of more than seven times.
The Primorsky Territory is the leader in this anti-rating, with a share of domestic vehicles accounting for only 4.5%. In Khabarovsk Krai and Sakhalin, the figure was 6%, while in Kamchatka, it was 8%. It is also worth noting that the number of domestic car owners is also low in the westernmost region of our country, Kaliningrad Region. The proportion of domestic cars in its car parc was 6.5%.
