Engine oil in a car can be changed after 15 thousand kilometers, but if the car regularly moves in traffic jams or the engine operates under load, this figure is reduced by half. Expert Mikhail Kolodochkin from Za Rulem magazine told socialbites.ca about this. He warned that the engine may seize due to untimely oil changes.
“Every automaker makes average recommendations for oil changes. Basically this is 15 thousand km – a recommendation based on our own tests. But this does not take into account the burdens,” Kolodochkin said.
According to him, recently manufacturers began to add a clause to the car’s user manual stating that when used in difficult conditions, including driving in urban traffic jams, this conditional replacement parameter should be divided in half.
“You don’t need to experiment on your car. Experienced car owners who are accustomed to everything usually change the oil every 5-7 thousand km. And this is the best option for the engine to last for a long time. But with such frequent changes, in no case should you buy the cheapest and worst oil with the expectation that after a few thousand kilometers it will still need to be drained,” explained the auto expert.
