The plant "Moskvich" is actively preparing for the transition to small-unit assembly. Moskvich 3 crossovers and Moskvich 3e electric cars will be produced by the full cycle technology. The transition to small-node assembly will be carried out in the next few months, reports the press service of AZ "Moskvich". At the moment the plant is at the first stage of production development - the plant is in the process of large-unit assembly with a gradual increase in the share of localisation.
In "Moskvich" cars the device for calling emergency services connected to the "ERA-GLONASS" system, technological fluids and various accessories have already been localized. In the near future, the transition to the second stage of development - small-unit assembly, including welding and body painting - will be made. At the same time, the number of components from which the car is made will increase - now the car will be assembled from more than 900 items (in case of large-assembly - about 50 items).
Also, with the transition to small-unit assembly, control over the incoming quality of components will be strengthened, this applies to both body parts and assembly parts. The plant has already installed a new, state-of-the-art robotised welding equipment system, which is specially designed for Moskvich, and the welding and painting processes have already been tested. The company has integrated the Moskvich 3 and Moskvich 3e models into the production line, set up the robots and prescribed all the programs. At the moment the plant is assembling and checking the quality of pre-production (test) cars assembled by the technology of small-assembly - more than 50 cars have already been assembled.
It is worth noting that with the transition to small-block assembly, Moskvich 3 crossover will have a two-tone body - the top is black, and the bottom in any of the five colours presented in the model's range. It was their share of 2% in 2022, so in total the premium segment then took 9% of the total new passenger car market. In 2023, this figure increased to 10%, i.e. back to the level of 2021. However, the "traditional premium" accounted for only 3%, while the "Chinese" segment already accounted for 7%. Of course, this is due to the fact that European and Japanese cars can be purchased only through parallel imports, while Chinese companies also use official deliveries to the Russian Federation, and in large volumes.
As for sales, last year, according to JSC "PPK", 106 thousand new premium cars were sold - 2 times more than in 2022. The Chinese brand EXEED became the sales leader among them with the result of 42152 sold vehicles. The second place is occupied by its compatriot - TANK (13021 vehicles). And only then come the former leaders of the Russian premium segment: BMW (9139 vehicles), Mercedes-Benz (6849 vehicles), Lexus (4976 vehicles). Lixiang, Voyah, Zeekr, Audi and Hongqi are also in the top 10 there. Lixiang and Zeekr cars are not officially delivered to our country, and along with Voyah they are represented in the segment of electric cars and hybrids.
