As the war raged in Ukraine, Britain and its NATO allies had to open a new hub for their arms supplies at the airport north of the Polish town of Rzeszów, just over an hour’s drive from the Ukrainian border. This became a frequent destination for the RAF air transport crews flying into deliver more British arms. Not content with supplying British equipment, Ministry of Defence officials started doing deals with countries as far afield as Pakistan and Jordan to buy arms for Ukraine. RAF C-17s were dispatched to collect these cargoes and deliver them to Rzeszow. By the end of 2022, the RAF said it had flown more than 240 C-17 and A400Ms. This was augmented by scores of sorties by the A330 Voyager fleet flying missions to Poland as part of Operation Interflex to pick up Ukrainian soldiers heading to the UK to train at British Army bases.
