nobody expects the western incoming missile shields would shoot down 100 pct of russian nukes. 90 percent would be optimal and ok. 10 percent go thru. technically very possible to intercept all russian missiles, but at very high costs. you can see it at Isrsel missile shield.. instead of billions deaths then hundreds millions still a win for the west. while all in Putin‘s Russia would be dead. russian roulette.
