If you guys remember the strategic cockup bush and cheney did with Iraq, which removed a threat for Iran and turned it into an ally with Iranian influence extending across Iraq now, the same mess is leading to China becoming stronger with Russia in its camp and no longer a threat. Same has happened between Iran and Russia who have been historic adversaries for control of the region around the caspian.
What Nato have done by encouraging and supporting this mess will lead to counter alliances to be created which were superficial before but started to become something more concrete now.
