Sea Sultan Long-Range MPA | Updates & Discussion

They are quite hard to find. I don’t believe it is still in production. We have been scavenging around for airframes. Only 6 have been procured against demand of 10.

There are quite a few for sale - the slow pace of induction has more to do with the conversion rate into Sea Sultans and finances, than the availability of the platform itself.

PN main issue with the Lineage 1000 is the availability of running spares & consumables. Embraer has marked the PN Lineage as a military aircraft which causes issues when the PN wants to buy spares and consumables from the open market as the aircraft registration is no longer as a civilian platform. This problem will also continue to haunt PN for the additional converted LRMPA platforms in the future unless PN comes to a workable deal with Embraer itself.

Maybe that could be the reason of handing over the first Lineage 1000 as a VVIP transport is to perhaps label it back into civilian registry.

The situation remains confusing however as the pilots flying the Lineage 1000 remain from PN

It is basically an E190 with extra tanks, unsure spares will be a massive issue moving forward.

Not sure if that's true with the current lot...

Yes - that is a different topic entirely - but right now, "we live in dangerous times" and having that separation is important for Pakistan itself. Being leaderless(of sorts) via a plane crash is too much risk against a foe like India.

All critical spares have to be cleared under an End User Certificate and clearance from Embraer Military Aircrafts section.

Sea Sultan induction in PN may be delayed further
Incredible honestly
Your adversary has what? 12 P-8Is currently in service. The best you have right now is P-3Cs and ATR-72s. Honestly what was the logic for using Lineage E 1000 as the base for Sea Sultan. Already a very rare platform and now one has been transferred over to PAF for VVIP use. As if there aren't already enough damned VVIP aircraft. Can the programme at this point

r using Lineage E 1000
even if u had used other aircraft , it would have taken same amount of timeor even longer , this is a complex project that the pn is doing themselves( plus other partners yes but point still stands ) with their measly budget and with no support from Embraer, id argue it is kinda amazing that they have reached this far

have patience

Again it all comes down to the platform that was chosen. Lineage E 1000 handicapped the programme. You now have a legitimate parts sourcing issue. Delays are expected in a programme of this scale that's given. But in PN's case, the platform itself is becoming a sort of a Trojan horse

paf and navy should selecta common platform and use it for their projects .

You mean the 1-2 planes which are in conversion process? or the conversion hasn't started yet for any plane ? We have 5-6 of these for now.
Yes. The initial induction of 2 Sea Sultans that was to take place by now has been delayed. The open market aircraft purchase (each pre-owned aircraft will cost around US$20-25 million) is the responsibility of Leonardo which than hands over the platform to Paramount Group in SA for conversions. I have a feeling that the Navy is already regretting this decision due to a number of internal and external factors, but that is just me and my intuition

i wish they select one platform it will reduce cost and make it more suitanle for bpth of them
For that the first step is having a combined Joint Surveillance Command Authority that includes Army/ Navy/ PAF experts to determine the role and the best singular platform that can sustain as a common choice for all three requirements
