The Stadium of the Year competition is coming to an end, so this is the last chance to cast your vote. As it is possible to distribute your points to as many as five stadiums, it is very likely that you will decide to choose a Chinese venue. Which one is the most impressive?

China's power demonstration

In 2023, as many as 14 new stadiums with a minimum capacity of 10,000 seats were built in China - 1 more than in 2022. Over ⅓ of this group can accommodate 50,000 fans or more! These statistics are all the more incredible given that they apply to just one country. In addition to the might of China's new arenas, it is also worth appreciating the architectural mastery of the designers, who have combined modern solutions with showcasing the traditions of the region in which the stadium is located.

Future Stadiums in China

Mar 17, 2024
If we asked you which country has the best stadiums in the world, we would probably hear the United States, Spain or Germany as answers.

But what about China? In 2023 alone, 14 stadiums with a minimum capacity of 10,000 seats opened there.

In today's video, we will show you 9 designs of the venues that will be on China's map in the future. We have ranked them from smallest to largest.

As a sports fan, I m very happy to see new, super modern large stadiums springing up all over China.

Every city, town and even village in China now are busy building top class stadiums, soon China's "ghost stadiums‘’ will be dominating western media headlines.

Now even every village builds their own grand stadium in China.

China is building stadiums at a speed and scale the rest of the world simply cannot match. From alien-looking earth-sheltered arenas to crystalline mega-complexes glowing on city skylines, we break down every next-generation sports venue China has built — and what it means for the future of global sports.

In this video, we cover the full story behind China's hundred-billion-dollar stadium revolution: the lotus-shaped Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center engineered with 67% less steel than Beijing's Bird's Nest, the ocean-inspired Dalian Suoyuwan Football Stadium with its one-mile double-helix public ramp, Zaha Hadid Architects' futuristic disc-shaped Hangzhou International Sports Centre, Hong Kong's $4 billion Kai Tak Stadium with its retractable roof and self-cleaning aluminum shell, and the Greater Bay Area Sports Centre — the most strategically significant sports venue ever built in China, completed in under two years.

Whether you're into architecture, urban planning, engineering, football, or the geopolitics of global sport, this video covers why China's infrastructure ambition is reshaping where the world's biggest sporting events will be held for decades to come.

Stadiums featured: Quzhou Stadium | Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center | Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre | Dalian Suoyuwan Football Stadium | Beijing National Stadium (Bird's Nest) | Hangzhou International Sports Centre | Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center | Shenzhen Bay Sports Center (Spring Cocoon) | Kai Tak Stadium | Chengdu Fenghuangshan Football Stadium | Qingdao Youth Football Stadium | Chongqing Longxing Football Stadium | Greater Bay Area Sports Centre
