Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

Former Assad General being protected by the US in Lebanon against Syrian govt.

Ima hazard a guess and say they're protecting him for something far more valuable than the journalist angle, probably more to do with privileged info he must have from his position in the regime and the chemical weapons programs. But it's inexcusable regardless of what it is.

Our chemical Ali must face his day in court, no war criminal should ever get such a sweet heart deal. Hopefully some negative press on this BS arrangement will pressure them to extradite him to Syria and face justice.

Well the Chemeical program is gone.

Also the "Journalist" who disappeared isn't a journalist. That guy was an intelligence operative. Thats probably who they are trying to get info on.

The guy was valuable enough for them to send High Level State Dept officials to go negotiate with Assad. Whereas Bilal Abdul Kareem is also an American citizen and a journalist, who they don't care at all about being in custody.

Oh, ok that makes more sense then. I didn't follow his story much back then, didn't realize he might have been a spy. Well he's dead now anyhow, they should just get the info they need from him and hand him over to us sooner rather than later, he needs to be tried and sentenced for all his crimes here.

The US thinks he is alive, for whatever reason they haven't given a reason why.

If he is alive, then he is most definitely not in Syria, the current guesses are that he was taken into Lebanon and held in Hezbollah areas, or he is in Iran.

Damn, I thought I read somewhere he was long dead. If they are really still trying to track him down, then ya it wouldn't be surprising he was smuggled out and being held somewhere as a bargaining chip later down the road. If he's still alive that is.
