For example the Internet was initially created for the military, satellite tech was developed out of fear of Soviets launching Sputnik, the military helped secure oil reserves and other natural resources, etc.

But things have developed since then. Iran and HTS have been communicating and Iran has reopened its Embassy in Damascus.

And there were even reports of HTS sending a message to iran about rapprochement via a backchannel through Qatar.

Syria does not want a hostile relationship with Iran and it does not need such a relationship, nor is it in its best realpolitik interests or core needs. If anything, there are converging interests with Iran.

Namely the issue of Israel taking land and bombing, as well as the US presence in Syria.
