Anyone tried the new 2026 model Y? What are your impressions ?
No, but i have a 2023 Model Y Long Range.
BTW when Canada announced the 100% tariffs on Chinese made EVs Tesla stopped shipping cars made in Shanghai to Canada. It is now back to US made ones for the first time since ~2022.
What difference does this make? Plenty. The US batteries handle cold weather better than the LFP batteries the Chinese cars use. You may consider that a huge plus for an EV.
However if Canada decides to drop the 100% tariff to spite Trump..then Tesla will start shipping the Shanghai made ones again.
LFP:
Pro: probably lasts longer
theoretically (not proven) less susceptible to battery degradation
Con: some cold weather issues
the battery needs to be charged up to 100% often because the battery meter "loses track" of how much battery charge is left.
Nickel batteries (2170)
Pro: supposedly more power when you hit the accelerator
accurate battery level meter as the battery drain is linear.
Con: Seems to need more babying to make it last a long time.
So this video talks about it...not sure of the results but he explains the issue. Very discouraging that he compares the Shanghai model to the Berlin model since that is useless because the Berlin cars also use LFP.
