China developed J-20 Fighter Jet with Russian Engine

The J-20 conducted its maiden flight in 2011, powered by imported Russian Engine ( Saturn AL-31F )

Between 2011 and 2015, China built several technology demonstrators and prototypes using Russian AL-31F series Engines

All initial mass production batches of the J-20 entering service in 2017 still heavily relied on these Russian Engine

in 2021 , The Russian Engines were completely replaced on the assembly lines by the domestic WS-10C Engine


Thanks to Russian technology and Russia who sent thousands of assembly manuals, engine calibration data, part tolerance tables and technical maintenance documents of the AL-31F Engine to China

Like the early phases of China’s J-20, the KAAN relies on a proven Engine for first flight and initial mass production while its domestic alternative undergoes development.

That's why the U.S. is extremely cautious about exporting its most advanced technologies to China. They believe that once China gains access to them, it can reverse-engineer and reproduce them very quickly.
By contrast, they're much more comfortable exporting advanced technologies to Turkey because they assume the Turks lack the capability to replicate them, even if the technology is handed to them intact.
Because they believe Turks are naturally unintelligent.

We do respect Turkiye's encourage and determination to become more self-reliant.

China in the past was often mocked as a poor quality copycat just like everyone will start off from scratch.

We would be more glad to see more progression of the KAAN and its turbofan engine development, but just refrain to put China with the misleading references and false information.

It is very disrespectful to our workers who have dedicated their lifetime to achieve the result.
