TF-X / KAAN / Hürjet Turkish Fighter & Trainer Aircrafts News & Discussions

So then why was P0, the first prototype KAAN rushed into first flight? Just managing 1 more flight in the entire year.
For the same reason why the yf-22 was flown, even though the final f-22 design was rebuilt from the ground up, because of major design problems.

In that case, why was the Chinese WS-10C not selected right from the word go?

Seems like Turkey went in with US engine due to lack of options or wanted to stick to western engine.
Western engines are the best in the world, and Turkey has a massive amount of experience with them, including making parts and license manufacturing US engines.

That's why.

China and Turkey haven't had the best of relations, and its still unclear if China would be willing to sell engines to Turkey, considering Turkey is still a very much western aligned NATO member nation.

Not to mention that China and Turkey have a huge rivalry going on in central Asia.

The engine issue remains shrouded in mystery.

They established a company called TRMOTOR, claiming it would produce Kaan's engine, but TRMOTOR lacks such capabilities. Everyone knows the engine will be manufactured by TEI. TEI's director, Mahmut Akşit, stated that they are working on the engine but that the official tender has not yet been held. Osman Okyay, the owner of Kale Motor, mentioned in his statements that they are ready to produce Kaan's engine and are preparing for the tender.

The President of Defense Industries, Haluk Görgün, has said the engine will be produced by 2029-2030.
