Second to only the xinjiang 'genocide' is the chinese social credit score. You see westerners talk about it in real life and on the internet and the only thing that shows is how brainwashed they are by their own media.

The idea that China operates a single "social credit score" that rates every citizen is indeed a widespread myth. Extensive research by independent experts and journalists has consistently found that no such unified, nationwide scoring system for individuals exists. What is commonly referred to as the "social credit system" is actually a fragmented collection of policies, databases, and regulatory tools that differ vastly from the dystopian image often portrayed in popular media.

Here is a breakdown of what the system actually is and where the confusion comes from.

🏢 A Business-Focused Regulatory Framework

The core of China's social credit system is primarily an administrative tool for regulating businesses and the market, not a tool for grading individual behavior. Its main goals are to improve market order, reduce fraud, and encourage trustworthiness in commercial transactions.

A significant portion of the data collected—roughly 73%—relates to enterprises, not individuals. The system aims to address problems like fake products, food safety scandals, and businesses that fail to pay their debts or taxes. For individuals, the most common application is the enforcement of court orders against "deadbeats" (laolai) who have the ability to pay debts but refuse to do so.

📊 The Two Systems Often Confused

The confusion largely stems from the conflation of two distinct things: a commercial credit score and a government regulatory mechanism.

FeatureZhima Credit (Sesame Credit)Government Social Credit System
OperatorAnt Group (a private company)Various government agencies
NatureA commercial "loyalty" or consumer credit score, similar to a credit card points systemA broad set of regulatory databases and enforcement rules for businesses and legal obligations
ImpactOffers perks like waived deposits for bike rentals or faster visa applications. It does not lead to government punishment for a low score. Can restrict market access for businesses or place court-ordered restrictions on high-spending for debtors (e.g., buying plane tickets).
Mandatory?Voluntary, opt-in for usersMandatory for businesses; enforcement against individuals is tied to specific court orders, not a general behavior score
The myth is often reinforced by a misunderstanding of commercial scores like Zhima Credit. A low score there simply means you might not get a deposit waiver on a rental bike; it does not mean you are barred from public transportation or that your child is denied school admission.

📜 The "Blacklist" and "Redlist" Reality

Instead of a universal score, the system uses "blacklists" and "redlists" to manage trust.

  • Blacklists: These primarily target specific, serious legal or regulatory violations. The most prominent example is the national blacklist for people who refuse to comply with court orders to repay debts. Being on this list can lead to restrictions on activities like buying flight tickets, staying in luxury hotels, or holding public office. This is a judicial enforcement mechanism, not a point-based deduction for minor behaviors.
  • Redlists: These recognize and reward positive behavior, such as paying taxes on time or volunteering. Rewards can include perks like discounts on platforms like Alibaba or priority in certain job applications.

🎭 Where the "Big Lie" Comes From

The "Orwellian" narrative of a universal score is often fueled by misinformation, satire, and media exaggeration.

  • Misinformation and Satire: Viral videos and social media posts frequently misattribute unrelated situations to the "social credit system." For example, a video of casual laborers in Shenzhen was falsely circulated with claims they were made homeless by the system, when in reality their lifestyle was a voluntary subculture with no connection to credit blacklisting. In another case, Chinese netizens created a satirical "credit point" app to mock and expose the absurdity of the Western media narrative, which was then sometimes mistaken for reality.
  • Media Oversimplification: Early media coverage, often comparing the system to an episode of Black Mirror, cemented the idea of a single, all-powerful score in the public imagination. Experts have pointed out that this portrayal ignores the fragmented, bureaucratic, and often low-tech reality of local implementation.

💎 Summary

The claim that China has a single "social credit score" for every citizen is a misconception. The actual system is a complex and evolving set of regulatory tools. While it does involve data collection and enforcement, its primary focus is on business compliance and enforcing court-ordered debt repayment, not on grading the daily behavior of individuals. The popular image of a universal, all-seeing score is largely a product of misinformation and a misunderstanding of commercial credit systems like Zhima Credit.

Here in the West, dissidents have more often IRS tax inspections.
Worst and most coward than any social score, condemning people to starving.

One young Spanish farmer, famous public dissident, committed suicide after being repeatedly harassed by tax inspections, citing that as one of main reasons.

Western "democracies" are a farce, do some political comment online and you will be immediately under electronic espionage surveillance and your acquaintances turned into police informants for 300 EUR/month, harassed with IM state sponsored bots.

projection.

but it's not even the same, it's worst in the west because here the system says "you are free to speak about politics"

at least, chinese state says the truth to his people "better avoid be involved in politics public discussions or you will be in troubles"

here they say, go ahead, and they stab you in the back, cowardly.

Yeah the ability to speak about something and not have anything happen is very western centric.

In china people love talking about politics just have to be careful not to talk about overthrowing the communist party. But then again if i wanted to overthrow the australian government and put in a communist one, id be on some watchlist too.

Credit score? Trump's credit score wouldn't get him a loan of even one yuan at a Chinese bank. Are you talking about this kind of credit score? Every country's banks have them.
Some deliberately fabricated news can no longer become mainstream in today's internet media era.

oh the horror!

Meanwhile just last week in the "supa-dupa awesome" Asian East....

Hong Kong court sentences 3 Tiananmen vigil organizers to prison

Three Hong Kong activists who organized annual vigils in remembrance of China's 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown were sentenced Friday to about 5 to 7 years in prison in a case widely seen as a barometer of the city's eroding freedoms as Beijing clamps down on dissent.

Yes, it's unimaginable in China that those powerful figures on Lolita Island are still at large. How do you Americans manage to have such a selfless and inclusive heart?
That's really terrifying.
Some Americans are born above the law.I'm sorry, you probably don't belong in this little circle.

they were warned to dont do it.

in the west you are encouraged to public political speech by undercovers, informants and so on, and then fcked through all kind of legal state harassing like tax inspections that could leave you in homeless state, worst than to be in jail. No laws, no formal acussation, just the arbitrary legal constant harassing of scumbags of the state.

Go to fk yourself western hypocrite fakecracies 🤢🤮
