You can see signs of a political motive to do it close to a particular date which has occupied US mind for long while

I think political gain objective is

• This killing would be used to drive forward anti immigration policies (which are already happening)
• Gun control will be attempted, it is a hot topic in USA
• Obviously silencing the anti Israel voice is one angle
