Trump scales back US-South Korea drills, cites 'very good' ties with Kim Jong Un

Trump has indeed damage relations with quite a few countries. Basically a self-inflicted wound that wasn't necessary..

He has destroyed some norms of the world order. But I choose to believe in the glass half full. Hopefully when and if the Democrats get control of the House of Representatives, they will do a lot of oversight that was lacking in this Republican conference.

Lets see how the mid-terms results change things, but in order to do damage control Democrats not only have to win mid-terms but also 2028 presidential election, with majority in both houses, or else it will be the same back n forth in the congress where bills will be introduced but won't pass. Democrats are struggling with bringing a strong leadership against the republican primary candidates, Schumer and Jeffery are terrible at what they do.

But lets talk about the military drills, wonder what scaling back such drills will have impact? for as long as US military is stationed there, along with its nukes and AC' group, lil kim won't be able to do much anyway.

Yep, his statements are mainly for local population, But regardless of this whole cutting of number of drills, Americans are there and that's what matters in grand scheme of things. But this will indeed scar the relationship, but America needs a lot of healing & soul searching once this cheeto is gone from office.

As someone who lived here for over 6 years now, I consider myself 50% American via naturalized, i think that what is even more important that America to heal itself and find its true soul, i know many will disagree with me but somewhere along the line America has forget who she is and what it stands for and what it represents. Alliances or friends or foes will not harm America but the real harm will come from when/if America lose itself and become what it fought against.

Look at it another way:

The US reducing or pulling out of South Korea could lead to renewed tensions between North and South Korea, potentially dragging China into a conflict on its border.

Similarly, since the US withdrew from Afghanistan, it's no longer America's problem. China now has to deal with the instability on its border.

The US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is also disrupting China's trade and energy security, including routes and projects connected to its Belt and Road ambitions.

Other examples of new challenges emerging around China:

Then you also have Russia under attack—another Chinese neighbour.

India's military infrastructure is being built up along the Chinese border.

And the semiconductor industry is potentially shifting some of its production and investment from Taiwan to the US.

This is what North Korea tried to achieve by force nearly 80 years ago, and it has made peace elusive on the peninsula ever since.
