Trump threatens 100% tariffs on BRICS nations over US dollar replacement plans

Vance is truly a talent. He went to see the Pope and the Pope died. He goes to meet Modi, India drops planes.

Honestly, the only politicians in Trump's cabinet that are really worth taking seriously are really Rubio and Bessent, the rest are a bunch of bogeymen.

One thing to consider is the product mix.. It might be 10% across the board but when you look at the individual commodity level, it's a different story.

I used to have access to the HTS. One of the divisions I worked in offered Customs clearance as a product offering for customers regardless if they shipped through us or not. It was a great incentive to get them to ship through us.
on the big picture I don’t see how Trump can’t win this trade war against China.
the problem is the US don’t understand the chinese. that’s very problematic. what Trump doing with 185 countries is nothing more than blackmailing. Trump’s intention is closing all loopholes, closing all potential trade routing. he blackmails trade concessions. but that’s fruitless because the negative will outweigh the positive. this will lead to nowhere.

I think Bessent has emerged as the true puppet master, he outplayed and sidelined Musk, Navarro, patronized Trump into accepting his agenda with sweet talks.. who'd have thought a gay parent can be so good with kids :ROFLMAO:

he will be regarded as the one who saved America from sleepwalking to its own demise

Bessent is clearly a representative of deep government. Musk's departure and Trump's transfer of power to Bessent effectively means that Trump's reform of America has failed.

Fighting against Trump tariff tooth and nail has given most people the wrong impression about China it seems, it should be made clear that China is NOT fundamentally against tariff as long as it is universal and non discriminatory, China wouldnt mind if Trump puts a, say, flat 50% tariff on every country, as its competitive edge will remain the same against other exporters

now with a universal 10% on everyone and 30% on China, our competitiveness basically stays the same as Biden era, thus deemed acceptable by China, not ideal, but acceptable...

Trump is behaving strange lately after many failures and setbacks, the drug price slash sounds like a very left-wing policy, there might be other source of influences around him.

Trump can't do that, he's just performing a false effect of "winning" for MAGA over and over again.

The United States does not have universal health care, and there is no nationally standardized bargaining mechanism. Trump's executive orders can only direct US federal agencies to adjust policies within their purview and change the way Medicare purchases drugs, but cannot directly interfere with the prices of drugs offered by state health insurance, commercial insurance, or retail pharmacies. He simply cannot fulfill his promise.

Tech war: Trump’s new chip policy puts spotlight on Huawei’s secretive Ascend AI chips

Huawei’s significance in China’s AI sector stems from its ability to produce advanced chips that rival Nvidia’s in performance

Published: 8:00am, 15 May 2025

New guidelines under US President Donald Trump, which define the use of Huawei Technologies’ Ascend chips “anywhere in the world” as a violation of US export controls, have put a spotlight on the secretive products developed by the Chinese tech giant.

Huawei, a key player in China’s tech rivalry with the US, did not immediately respond to the new guidelines from the US Commerce Department, which explicitly singled out its Ascend chips after scrapping the Biden administration’s country-tiered “AI diffusion” rule.

The Shenzhen-based company has kept details of its AI chips close to its chest, with the only public information coming from third-party teardown reports.

Huawei’s significance in China’s AI sector stems from its ability to produce advanced chips that rival Nvidia’s in performance, thereby cutting the country’s reliance on imports to develop AI models such as those from local start-up DeepSeek.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said earlier this month that Huawei was “one of the most formidable technology companies in the world”, and that China was “not behind” in AI.

Violation of USA export controls.

Which one?

USA is so funny.

It means the new Ascend is very competitive.

US has stolen/bribed engineering talent from all over the world and claims their inventions. The world does not need to reinvent the wheel. Just copy, borrow or steal the best technology. US should stop putting restrictions and tariffs on the world.

Trump Says He’s Willing to Travel to China for Xi Meeting
Fri, May 16, 2025 at 4:01 PM PDT

(Bloomberg) — US President Donald Trump said he would be willing to travel to China to speak with Xi Jinping about foreign policy and economic issues.

“I would certainly,” Trump said when asked if he wanted to visit Xi on a foreign trip during an interview with Fox News that aired Friday, adding that the relationship between China and the US was “important.”

The US president in his second term has repeatedly expressed an eagerness to speak with the Chinese leader. Earlier in the week, he predicted the two might talk by phone after their deputies negotiated a temporary truce in the trade war that was sparked by Trump imposing dramatic tariffs on Chinese goods.

Under that 90-day agreement, the US reduced levies on Chinese imports from 145% to 30%, while Chinese duties on US goods fell to 10%.

Despite signaling an eagerness to reach out to the Chinese leader, Trump portrayed his just-completed visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates as designed to keep the countries outside of Beijing’s sphere of influence.

“They were going to China, and that was going to be their parent, and that’s not happening,” Trump said of the three Arab states. He added that the nations were “very important to keep in our fold.”
