Turkey Greece Relations and Maritime Disputes

Turkey does not recognize UNCLOS and argues that certain Greek islands should have restricted maritime boundaries to ensure equity based on mainland coastlines. Conversely, France and the UK operate within a framework that fully recognizes standard law of the sea principles, adjusting local fishing and territorial rights through localized functional agreements rather than denying islands their general legal capacity. [1, 2, 3]

The Channel Islands are Crown Dependencies and not part of the United Kingdom itself, possessing unique historical constitutional arrangements with the British Crown. In contrast, the Aegean islands are fully integrated parts of the sovereign territory of the Hellenic Republic, established by international treaties like the Treaty of Lausanne. [1, 2]
