I really think this is true. I also believe that Assad not taking Tehran's advice seriously was a big factor. Even now, a lot of pro-IRI internet users ignore this reality. Assad chose not to heed the Iranians. He has been pro-Russian right from the start.

In hindsight, it was probably a good move. Syria was (and is still) a black hole that was sucking up Iranian treasury to keep afloat a rump state, with a very incompetent Assad.
At least now, Iran doesnt have to spend manpower, billions in treasury and giving away free oil. Syria is somebody elses problem now.

I will not lie, the fall of the regime was very damaging to Iranian strategic interests. But in the long run, it may have not been so bad.

⚠️ Urgent ⚠️
An informed source to the verification platform:

📌 The Coalition is evacuating ISIS prisons in Raqqa and southern Hasakah and transferring the prisoners to prisons in the heart of Hasakah Governorate

📌 The Turkish and Syrian armies are prepared to carry out a limited military operation in Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and southern Hasakah if SDF refuses to hand over the Deir ez-Zor countryside as a first step

📌 The joint Syrian-Turkish Operations Room has become active and ready to operate

📌 What is being circulated in the media about there being no intention of a military operation does not go beyond political rhetoric to absolve Syria and Turkey of responsibility

This would be significant if true. Ahmad Al Sharra visited Moscow a few weeks back and met Putin, and it was reported that things were conveyed to the Iranians via Russia there, as the Iranian foreign minister visited Moscow soon after.

Sharaa meeting the Supreme Leader would be something very interesting.

In the information that came out after the government fell a year ago,it was obvious that Syrians and maybe Russians as well were fed up with the Iranians,as Iran was trying to promote its plans, often putting the Syrian government in a difficult position. Probably that's why the Syrians would have some deals under the table with the Israelis. The Russians of course already had such deals since they only protected Hmeimim and largely left the Israelis strike Iranian convoys and bases.
