Would it not be more prudent for "Al-Sharaa" to focus on the increasing/creeping invasion of his country from Israel who is gobbling up Syria right now, than on a non-existent threat for Naim and his group ???

Realpolitik interests are more important than emotions. The reality is Syria made peace with Russia, and there are converging interests with Iran, PMUs and Hezbollah, and a need to address any potential misunderstandings as well to avoid conflict.

The Israelis are a bigger threat to the state than whatever is left of Hezbollah.

This is probably what sets erdogan apart from most leaders in the middle east. Erdogan understands the game, he understands you have to balance relations and at times give advantages to your direct rivals to make bigger gains down the road. You can see this approach is being taken by Syria and i have no doubts its Turkish MIT directing the Syrian leader.

Syria has to create links and connections with important nations in order to hedge against all of them and maximise personal benefit. This is why enemies of the revolution have been invited back into Syria to do business. Because the main and only real threat to Syria now is Isreal and in order to gain international support she has to make syria an "interest" for said nations. If Syria is an isolated state, it easy for Isreal to attack her.

A colossal mistake the iranians and assad made in the region was constantly ignoring Turkiyes legitimate concerns. They did everything to harm Turkiye and took a maximalist approach against Turkiye. As a result Assad is gone and iranians found themselves directly being attacked by the USA and Isreal.

Had the iranians and assad just took Turkiyes PKK concerns into account instead of supporting them, Assad would still be around and Syria would still exist as a buffer between Iran and Isreal. Had Assad taken Turkiyes PKK concerning in the north into account, Turkiye could have moved to help Assad the way Turkiye helps Syria today.

The approach that sees everything in purely black and white nearly always leads to disaster in geopolitics.

Its good they are taking the lead, now they have a vested interest in not having Israel bomb their investments, and Turkiye in many sectors would still end up with many contracts in construction and technical expertise, b/c while the Saudis have money and might run the company investment, they would still have to source many of the materials and technical capacity from Turkish companies who have been quite dominant in construction throughout the region.

Yes, Turkish exports to Syria went up by 70% in 2025, and 26% in Jan. to July 2026.
