In the MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) sector, Turkey is already several steps ahead. This can be observed in Eskisehir, in the northwest of the country, at a maintenance center for fighter jets. Three men are kneeling on the wing of an American-made F-16. One is checking a screw connection, another is leaning into the aircraft's interior. The outer skin has been partially removed, exposing individual cables and hydraulic lines. Under the wing, two technicians are working with a measuring instrument in front of open maintenance panels.

The work is part of routine maintenance, which is due every 200 flight hours. It's similar to a car needing its annual inspection, only that such maintenance is incomparably more complex for fighter jets. The jet being examined has not shown any defects so far. But even if something needed repairing, much of it can be fixed on-site. In adjacent workshops, engines are disassembled and reassembled, accessories are tested, cracks are repaired, and surfaces are cleaned, coated, or reinforced. Some components are treated with heat, electricity, or pressure, while others are measured with millimeter precision.

Around 14,000 different spare parts can be produced here, totaling approximately 100,000 annually – and at a lower cost than procuring them from abroad. Posters on the walls illustrate the difference: Reproducing an F-16 main spar costs $814 internally, while it would cost $16,318 from the original manufacturer. These are not pirated copies; Turkey officially collaborates with Lockheed Martin.

Congrats. Hope the joint program progress well and can create a symbiotic partnership that could eventually reach something more ambitious (KAAN).

We had previously good experiences with CN235 aircraft and more recently in LHD Anadolu.

Hardworking people with political will have created a beautiful plane. We are all excited and probably 80% of people support this contract. Good luck to all.

Any information of Spain's aircraft carrier project?

No oficial news. But semi-officials websites are spreading rumors that Armada would like a CATOBAR for hypothetical FCAS. IMO CATOBARs are extremely expensive (specially catapults) and with two dozens aircrafts a huge part of the MoD would be beaten just for It. You need to build, operate them, but also train pilots and personnel.

A STOBAR with UCAV would eventually be more pragmatic and economic approach to embarked Air power. So I think Turkey have a more realistic plan for their carrier. Kizilelma maybe can make 50% of FCAS missions with a fraction of personnel, smaller carrier and much less cost in maintenance and logistic hurdles.

Turkey should start milking these Europeans when it comes to military weapons

Turkey now exceed Italy and Spain in military technology

by 2030 they should be catching France and beyond 2035+ they should be closing in on UK + Germany

after 2040 I can't see anyone beating Turkey in Europe, that 15 years

Turkish military exports could exceed $8 billion for 2025, some of these come to mind
