Kaplan MT successor needs an indigenous 105mm gun and powerpack.

I think the current one is using an imported Belgian Cockerill gun/turret as well as a Caterpillar/Allison powerpack. Could be subject to Embargoes.

Light Tanks will be a lot more prominent in the upcoming battlefield, With the new M10 Booker from the US, Israeli Sabrah, Indian Zorawar, and Chinese Type 15, all built/developed very recently, in expectations of a changing battlefield dynamic, hope Turkey doesn't miss the opportunity..

There might be a BMC engine that would be fit the category for the power 700-1000HP but a modern 105mm gun development will probably be the biggest issue. I don't think there is an MKEK project yet, thought they do have license produced M68T, but its License produced and the intellectual property is tied to the US and its an old gun from the M60 tank.

Turkish Army has no demand for light Tanks
And we can not spend the limited budget of the defense industry only for the export of Vehicles produced by the private sector

BMC already developing power pack 600-1.000 hp engines for Military Vehicles

but I don't think it will be subject to embargo for guns
European companies are eager to make money by taking advantage of the Turkish Arms market in the world

for example OTOKAR and LEONARDO
The 120 mm Hitfact Mk2 turret produced by Italian Leonardo was integrated into the TULPAR developed by Otokar and TULPAR was transformed into a Light Tank

Light tanks will come more into prominence in the near future, b/c of mobility issues with MBTs in certain situations, especially with regards to transport and fighting in difficult mountainous terrain, as well as the changing battlefield, there is a reason the M10 Booker was built, and its not b/c the US doesn't have enough M1 Abrams or anything like that. The War in Ukraine has shown the benefits of a Light Tank. Especially with its mobility and its role as an assault gun.

Germany embargoed the Altay and killed its production, Belgium can possibly do the same. I'm not too worried about the engine and transmission b/c I think BMC will be able to handle the task or they might already have an engine in the category to plug in.

The Main issue is the Turret, I think its worth pursuing, even the Israelis have invested in creating their own Elbit 105mm gun, so its not necessarily a niche item, as they also seem to be watching the developments. I was going to mention Leonardo as an option as its less likely to be embargoed as the Italians have a better relationship with Turkey. and I'm happy to see that they seem to have Integrated the turret on the Tulpar.

As you know , MKE already has technology to produce 105 mm gun for M-48 Tank , 120/44 mm gun for M-60 Tank and 120/55 mm gun for ALTAY Tank

120 mm 55 caliber ALTAY Weapon System, produced with 100% domestic and national resources ...... ( it is not under license production )

Our NATO allies imposed an embargo on Turkiye for Naval projects
and MKE developed 76 mm naval gun in 2 years .. also 127 mm gun under development

If needed , MKE easly can produce 105 mm gun for light Tanks

Turkish defence sector goes from strength to strength!

There is a huge market waiting out there to place more orders.

I heard about a 600 km BM reaching 5 Mach after separation of warhead. Is there more information on that?

@MMM-E would know, I believe they were talking about the Tayfun missile being hypersonic and maneuverable, but I bet he has more details.

The License produced M68 gun is a bit outdated, the US chose to go with the M35 for the Booker instead of retaining the same M68, similar to the Israelis choosing to go with the new design Elbit 105mm new gun on their Sabra light tank they sold to the Philippines, even thought they also have license production of the M68. I think to remain competitive, any system would need to be upgraded with a newly developed gun using modern tech, that has the same benefits as the other modern 105mm tank guns.

Idk if the M68 Turkey license produced will help in the development in terms of tech, but the Altay 120mm gun will certainly help in terms of tech understanding.

MKE produced the most modern system for ALTAY Tank with 100% domestic and national resources .. its 120/55 mm gun

FNSS and OTOKAR easily procure 105 - 120 mm guns from European companies for their light Tank projects

if needed , MKE can easily develop a 105 mm gun based on 120 mm gun technology

you will need numbers and light tanks are easier to mass produce it, regarding protection it can be protected with same "systems" as heavy ones, speed and maneuverability are more important now then ever, if the cycle turn around again you can always convert those into heavy APC and specialized vehicles.

A multi-billion dollar contract for the supply of artillery ammunition was signed between Turkish ARCA and Slovakian MSM GROUP
