They need to give VISA free travel and update Customs agreement. I hope Turkey presses them on this. This sort of chance is not going to happen often. They are shitting bricks over Russia and have no real capacity to fight Russia without the US, if they get into a hot war over the baltics. Turkey should capitalize on their need for Turkey and demand payments upfront, before any significant cooperation from Turkey.

If all of Europe wants Turkey to participate in any future European security architecture, how long can Greece + Cyprus deny Türkiye's participation in SAFE?

What's the interest? Turkey to sell stuff to EU countries? We're supposed to develop and support the european defence industry and limit buying from non-EU countries. That was what we were supposed to do. Of course Americans pressure almost every single country in the EU to buy some American weapons systems. But we were supposed to focus on the EU defence industry.

📍NEW/IMPORTANT — Greek Defense Minister Dendias made a surprise statement regarding Turkey's participation in the European defense program SAFE.

▪️Previously completely rejecting participation, Dendias this time said that Turkey could join SAFE "only under strict conditions" and drew attention to the level of the Turkish defense industry.

▪️Dendias also said that SAFE will not be the "main driving force" in Europe's armament and that important European countries are not participating in the program.

▪️Dendias's statements:
➖"Turkey has primarily achieved significant domestic production capacity, and secondly, an export capacity at the billions level, and frankly, they are much further ahead than where we are."

➖"We don't necessarily have to become a second Turkey, but we can learn from their mistakes and chart our own path from there."

➖"Turkey's participation in SAFE is a matter of principle."

➖"The question is simple: Does Turkey share the principles and values of the European Union, so that it can automatically be at the foundation of their defense?"

➖"Therefore, Turkey can only be part of Europe's defense foundations, but conditionally and under very strict conditions."

➖"We are drawing lessons from the Ukraine war and the Karabakh war."

➖"Europe needs many years to build a serious defense capability. Europe has forgotten defense."

Turkey has industrial capacity to provide production, b/c of supply chains for minor parts that would otherwise have to be imported from China. Europe currently cannot produce cost efficiently.

Turkey recently exported machines and production methods for producing 155mm shells to both Germany and the United States.

Turkish defense firm Repkon is establishing advanced, automated production lines for 155mm artillery shells in the United States, particularly in Texas, under contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense.

The demand Europe has cannot be met with European production alone, and certainly not in a secure supply chain w/o Turkey. And they are well aware of this, which is why they are trying to bring in Turkey, not b/c they suddenly like Turkey.
