Türkiye, Pakistan deepen defense ties with KAAN jet export, joint helicopter project

For this project to enter into service in Pakistan and be produced there, the development of a Turkish engine is absolutely necessary. It is not possible for Kaan jets equipped with the F110 engine to be delivered to Pakistan.

The testing of the Turkish engine will take a long time. While we developed the TS1400 engine in a short period, its testing is still ongoing. They are projecting 2027 for mass production. If it took this long for a helicopter engine, I can estimate that Kaan’s engine might be ready around 2035. If Pakistan secures itself and waits for Kaan until then, it will undoubtedly become part of the Pakistan Air Force inventory.

Pakistan has all the time in the world. PAF is already in the process of acquiring another great fighter J-35 which will allow PAF to prepare and lay the ground for KAAN. Pakistani pilots are receiving necessary training.

The powerplant is American. Didn’t DC disallow Turkey from selling its attack helicopters to Pakistan for this reason?

The powerplant will be Turkish for the version Pakistan will get.

The US didn't allow the engine sale, the copter was Turkish, hence the KAAN engine effort to make it 100% Turkish. That mistake won't be made again.

Actually, there are some incorrect details in the link you provided.
The TF6000 and TF10000 are the same engine. The afterburner-equipped version was given a separate name. This engine is intended for small aircraft and will be used in Kızılelma and Anka-3.

For the Kaan, an engine named TF35000, with 35,000 pounds of thrust, is being developed. We can estimate that the non-afterburner version will produce around 22,000–24,000 pounds of thrust.

Turkey will develop a new engine for Kaan and won't be able to sell it to Pakistan!!!! 🤣

The only reason we're developing a new engine is to sell Kaan to countries like Pakistan. Moreover, Rolls-Royce has no involvement in the engine. The intellectual property rights of the new engine will be 100% owned by Turkey.
US has enough financial leverage over Turkey to armtwist any deal they find undesirable to their foreign policy. You don’t have strategic autonomy to begin with.

They're saying the PAF will wait for the Turkish engine. Besides the KAAN is still under development, it's not a near-term factor for Turkiye (hence the Typhoon and F-16 Block-70 purchases), much less so for PAF.

I'm not confident in PFX amounting to new-build aircraft, especially if the idea is to lessen reliance on China. Even if PAC can buy the whole design, it seems there are some Chinese controls on the production equipment necessary for manufacturing AVIC's share of the fighter.

Currently, I think PFX is more about upgrading the PAF's JF-17s with Pakistani-designed subsystems and weapons.

IMO, if the PAF is genuinely serious about developing a new lightweight 4.5-generation fighter separately from China, then talk to Turkiye about turning their Hürjet into a larger and longer-ranged fighter.

I think Turkiye may have an incentive for doing so as it seems the Turkish Navy will use the Hürjet from their future aircraft carrier. I'm skeptical the Turkish Navy will use the Hürjet as it is now; a dedicated fighter variant with some design changes could be real, and that's the project the PAF needs to get in on.
Why hurjet , why not naval version of kaan ?......

It’s commendable that Turkey has decided to go for its own indigenous turbofan engine, but is it not plausible to think that the same United States, which went out of its way to block a sale of 30 T129 ATAK, would find some other way to put pressure on Turkey not to sell its fighter jets to Pakistan?

In contrast, China is a safer option because the US does not have any means to armtwist them. That’s why I find J-35 to be a more plausible candidate.

It's possible that both J35 and KAAN will be inducted

Kaan will take longer due to Turkish engin testing and certification

J35 is almost ready, both are different types of plane

PFX is supposed to be a smaller and lighter weight platform than the KAAN (or J-35A). Basically, the PAF's next-gen fighter for air defence/point defence and cross-border strikes.

If the idea is to indigenize the JF-17, then Pakistan will need to figure out and build its own tooling for the parts AVIC is/was supplying. AVIC won't release the production systems that are under Chinese state controls.

IMO, if the PAF has to go that far with the PFX (which is a good thing), then it might be worth putting that investment towards a new platform, and work with a willing partner.

I am asking , why naval version of hurjet for turkey since turkey is developing kaan that can be modified for naval version ?
