Indian-origin households have emerged as the wealthiest ethnic group in the United Kingdom, according to a new report by the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The study found that the median wealth of Indian households more than doubled over the past decade, rising from £93,000 in 2012–14 to £206,000 in 2021–23.

This increase outpaced all other ethnic groups in the country, driven largely by higher rates of homeownership and long-term investment gains.

The report said the largest wealth gains in the UK were concentrated among Indian households and those classified as “Asian Other.”

Median wealth for Indian households rose by £93,000 during the period, while the Asian Other group saw a sharp increase from £33,000 to £125,000.

By comparison, median wealth among White British households increased more modestly, rising by £52,000 from £125,000 to £177,000 over the same period.

The data showed that most of the wealth accumulation occurred in the latter half of the decade, particularly between 2016–18 and 2021–23.
