I'd go as far as to say they have disappeared. Assimilation means some footprint is left of your people/culture, but that hasn't happened.
The mixed sons and daughters often go on to marry a white partner, then it's lost forever. However I've seen a new trend with mixed folks marrying each other so they do keep things going somewhat.

I'm surprised people are having this convo now. I had this convo 34 years ago, and many, including myself when on to compete in the ring in various martial disciplines. The most popular in my area was kick boxing of various forms.
As a man if you can't fight, or at least defend yourself, you are a liability and will have to have other men step into to defend your vulnerable family members e.g. wife, sister, mum, kids etc.
